Subject: CSM: 2000pts -Green Wave of Rot with mayhem pack-

Khorne Veteran Marine with Chain-Axe
|
Hello everybody,
I have been collecting CSM for some time now and after a long warhammer 40k break I decided to make a Nurgle list with Typhus as the main star of the show. I haven't played a game in a long time and I was wondering if this list would work in 7th edition at all. All tips and critisism are more then welcome.
Iám trying to make a semi-competitive nurgle themed 2000 armylist. I like the idea of a big green wave moving in on the enemy and being a very in your face army. My idea was to use small squads of plague marines for taking enemy objectives while riding around in rhinos shooting from the hatches. Typhus will walk with 20 zombies and act as a major speed bump for fast enemies. The other 10 zombies will come in from reserve later and will sit on my objective if needed. The spawn and the sorcerer will move out and go for high priority targets and draw away fire from the three rhinos with plaguemarines. My plan was to keep the spawnaround the sorcerer to protect him. The Obliterators and the heldrake will provide supporting fire and also provide some anti air firepower. The mayhem pack of three Helbrutes will deepstrike in where the enemy least expects it or where the sorcerer needs assistants.
I would like advice on tactics or the list as much as possible.

My only real issue with this is that flyers provide a pretty big problem with this list. the 4 autocannons probably will never kill one and, while the oblits have the fire power, you're really counting on those 6s to hit. Personal preference to follow. Take it or leave it: Try it out with splitting the 30 man zombies up. make one 10 man with them. troops are very useful with the new Objective Secured rule and zombies are surprisingly hard to pull off of an objective, I'm not a huge fan of havocs right now. I've used them a few times and they tend to get drop podded (or other similarly fast unit) pretty quickly. While not bad, spawn tend to be meat shields for juggerlords or nurgle bike lords/sorcs. That's pretty much what they do. Pulling them can give you a much needed helldrake, the only reliable antii air (especially now that vector strike is AP 2). I'd rather see bikes with meltas,

Ty Sothas for the reply Iám very interested in the bike sorcerer idea how do you normally use him? or do you prefere a juggerlord over the sorcerer? The helldrake is probably a good idea but i never liked the look of the model and doesn't really fit in my nurgle themed army maybe i should buy one and go crazy with greenstuff on it. I guess meltas work better then plasma in the 7th edition on bikers good point.
Splitting the zombie squad in 1x 20 with Typhus and 2x 10 for capping objectives sounds pretty good.

I can't say I prefer one of the HQs over the other. They do stuff differently. Sorc is usually MoN, bike, spell familiar, ML3, and usually melts bombs. I haven't quite figured out the spell's I want on him but I've been leaning towards 2 in nurgle and psychic shreak. That gives at least 3 witch fires. Maybe even 4. If he's with spawn then MoN them for T5. Nurgle bikes work with him too.
The juggerlord is pretty standard. MoK, juggernaut, axe of blind fury. This is the meanest beat stick the codex can produce. I can't even tell you the amount of stuff that's died to this dude, especially with the new challenge rules overflowing the wounds.
Also most of the time if I have the left over points I put gift of mutation on my HQ.
If you dont like helldrakes another option for anti air is the aegis defense line. I use mine typically with with a nurgle Harold (BS 5) and 20 daemons. They're 2+ cover behind that thing with FNP. It costs a few points but if you plop it down on an objective they do their job. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and my defense line is sufficiently green stuffed for some great nurgly look

I think I will go for the sorcerer I think he would be very usefull i nthe psychic pfaze and I really like the idea of a mad sorcerer biker escorted by a crazy group of spawn. To bad there isn't really a model for it as far as i can see.
I was thinking tho what about this tactic ignore the flyers and try and wipe the table clean. Especially with the tough nurgle units and presistent zombies, try and kill all the objective capturing units and it is pretty much GG?

Yeah, unless it's a flyer that is anti troop like a helldrake, ignoring the flyer is a possibility. You don't have tons of models so you'll feel every loss but most flyers will probably only get 1 or 2 models a turn, if any at all.

Ok I just bought a heldrake and greenstuff
Changed the list: added a biker sorcerer and added the heldrake and removed the bikers and split up the zombie squad.
Anymore tips or advice for this list or tactics?

Sorc doesn't need a PF, he has a force weapon. That can go on plague champ if you want it. Maybe melts bombs instead. Typhus can safely challenge now that challenge wounds spill over into the squad. So if he does 3 wounds you kill what he's fighting and 2 more things (assuming 1 wound enemy). If you're playing maelstrom of war missions (which I recommend cuz they're super fun) don't reserve the zombies. Dirge casters probably aren't needed as you most don't charge with plague marines. They're not bad so if you are planning on charging that's perfectly fine. Other than that it looks fine.

Remember to make all of your obliterators separate! Make each one their own squad.
This will:
1) Remove the need to take leadership tests because the whole unit will be dead
2) Allow a greater variety of shooting per turn (Shooting 3 different weapons at three different targets rather than just 1 type at 1 squad. Although you can still do this with 3 solo oblits)
3) Protects your obliterators by spacing them out across your deployment zone. Where before say some centurions could've rolled up and grav cannoned all three to death, they now can only kill one at a time, and, if you space out your oblits, will have to walk a while to get their 24" weapons into range.
A popular loadout for CC for lords/sorcerers is the LC/PF combo. You get the extra attack from two specialist weapons but get to choose between a high STR high AP low I weapon and a medium STR medium AP and medium I weapon. I would roll for biomancy or pyromancy spells.

Chaos can't take biomancy. Pyromancy isn't bad but the others are better IMO.
LC/PF is pricey as hell.

I would avoid extra armor as being crew stunned isn't that awful.
I would suggest, for plague marines, combi-meltas for some anti tank that your opponent will likely forget about, dozer blades to ignore terrain some, or havoc launchers to provide some all game firepower

Umm yes they can.
on the rhinos i usually just use dozer blades, i hate getting stuck, its a personal preference though. Automatically Appended Next Post: i also wouldn't run a mark on the sorcerer. csm psychers have to roll one power on their gods table, that's lame. not taking a mark will give you three rolls on biomancy or telepathy, which really is alot better. mmmm endurance.. on nurgle spawn... yummy.

Thank you all for the great tips.
I wasn't sure what to do with the rhinos but like your idea lot so I changed them to Dozer blades and havoc launchers.
I like the idea of giving the Plague marine squads some extra anti tank punch so I gave them combi-meltas.
The sorcerer seems to be more useful without a MoN so I removed it I do kinda miss out on the 6 toughness but I guess that will be worth it.
I was wonderign what weapon would you guys give the sorcerer iám leaning towards force Axe or PF?

id go force axe, and yes he's t5, but with nurgle spawn his unit is majority t6, so against shooting that helps.
list is looking really good.

i wish you could add the mayhem helbrute pack to this list. having 3 deepstriking helbrutes would be ace here for extra threat. there's just not enough points for it.
my only other critique would be drop the pm squads to 5 and lose the extra equipment on the champs. just run the combi weapon to match squad. use the extra points to get an ADL with quad gun, or a bunker.
also the 20 zombie squad is 90 points not 94 , good list, if i ran a nurgle list this is how I'd do it.
Oooh one last thing, the way the current CADs seem to work (and how BAO/ NOVA are ruling it) you can pull from all supplement books in a faction to make your single CAD. take your sorcerer from the crimson slaughter book and give him demon heart, 2+ and IWND is really good on a biomancy sorcerer with spawn.

Oh wauw that list looks great Zachwho thank you for the tips guess i have to get my third hellbrute, tbh i never used a hellbrute but i guess with vehicles being tougher in 7th it makes sense.
Iám a bit worried about the plague marine squad size of 5 tho wouldn't they lose effectiveness when you drop below 7?
AH yea forgot to change the zombiesquad points kept changing them to fill up the points.

it wouldn't hurt anything to run some plasma, i just prefer meltas, and i hate gets hot rolls ( i always kill myself).
i don't think 7 marines are better than 5. 7 can't do anything my 5 man squad can't do, and I'm doing it cheaper, so i can buy more toys. plaguemarine strengths are 2xspecial weapons being fearless troops, and tough to kill. i still have all that in a 5 man squad. but that's personal tastes.

Just got my new Helbrutes and preparing to give this awesome list a try Thank you all for the tips and advice. I really love the Mayhem pack rules a lot IWND, free crazed roll before movement and all three coming from reserve at the same time with one dice roll sounds really usefull.
@Zachwho: I guess a squadsize of 5 would get the job done I was just holding on to the sacred number 7 of Nurgle but i will go with 5 man squads I jsut c an't pass up on three deepstriking Hellbrutes. I was wondering if multi metla is the way to go for all three Hellbrutes?
Had to remove the meltabombs on the plaguemarines and the dozerblades on the rhinos to get under 2000 points.

Nothing has changed for chaos since you posted your previous list, though I'd check with your local meta about drawing from multiple supplements in 1 CAD, that's not my understanding of how things are run.

Iám not really sure what the rules are on that part. So far i use the Crimson slaughter supplement for a relic for the Sorcerer (Demon heart). and beside that I use the dataslate for the mayham helbrute formation. Is this a forbidden combination normally?
