This Warhammer 40k diorama, made entirely from LEGO bricks, is just so fantastic. It makes me wonder: If these were official kits, would it be cheaper than buying regular Warhammer space marines and orks? At least building them would definitely take less time.

Credit goes to Jerac, a veteran LEGO builder who built this for an exhibition in Krakow, Poland. Here are some extra shots below, and you can visit notalive's imgur gallery for a lot more.

We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

id like to imagine a cease and desist notice would include some sort of verbiage on requiring them to destroy it with a hammer

Much easier than trying to create one.

Yeah, but have you seen the cost of the kits?? we bought my kids their first "Real" lego sets a couple weeks ago (by real I mean, not Duplo, but actual LEGO sized)

Of course, being the awesome dad that I am, I bought a kit for myself

That looks great. I recall seeing some of those figs and vehicles on their own a while back, but in the setting of a diorama like that it's really amazing.

As for LEGO vs 40k on price, I can speak to this based on personal experience buying and building ALOT of LEGO. The truth that it totally depends. If you buy the right pieces in bulk, you can probably do Space marines cheaper in LEGO, as well as special characters in virtually any army. However, horde armies troops are going to be more expensive and terrain is going to be MUCH more expensive.

Still, being able to rebuild your troops into any configuration or character and redo terrain as well, in the long run LEGO could prove cheaper.

I've done some wargaming with LEGO, but mostly with small skirmish games like Song of Blades and Heroes.

That so amazing! I can only assume the guy who built it either doesn't have a job or a wife!!!!

How do you expect me to know what it is if you haven't painted it! Unpainted models are just proxies for the real thing

I don't know this guy personally, but I've been involved with the AFOL (Adult Fans of LEGO) community for about a decade now. I can tell you that the majority of the makers of large LEGO creations are middle class and upwards professionals, with good paying jobs and famlies. It takes quite a large budget to create really big LEGO creations. You're probably looking at a few thousand dollars of LEGO right there and this one is big, but not even on the "really Big" end of things as LEGO MOCs ("My Own Creations" as we call them) go.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I did a comparison on the price-point a while ago on Dakka. Basic lego minifigs come up marginally cheaper the 40K models, making the GW models cheaper once 'wargear' is factored in... and obviously of higher quality.

No need for bashing here though - this is damned awesome no matter how you look at it.
