I would strongly suggest either getting a good foam case or some shelves for them.

Before I got my KR case I used a cheep case designed for cameras and scraps of foam to pack non-infantry up for the trip to the FLGS. At home they lived on bookshelves.

Though it works you should get a foam case would probably be a good idea

Plano hand gun cases are only 10$ and can hold about 4ish rhino/chimera sized vehicles IIRC. you just have to cut square holes into the foam. and glue the egg crate together.

I have a couple of battlefoam trays (2" and 3") for my SM vehicles.
My rhinos and razorback vehicles fit into the 2" trays (4 per tray) and landraiders JUST fit 2 into the 3" trays. I have a case that they fit into also. When I'm not using them (which means since the end of 5th edition ) they stay in their trays in the cupboard of shame.

I have found that I could fit 12 Rhinos and 2 penitent engines into a Battlefoam 4 inch tray. So it depends what vehicle you have. Rhinos are pretty stackable.

Check out KR Multicase.

Remember that using things like camera cases or gun cases or Pelican equipment cases to transport your miniatures increases the risk of the cases being stolen by someone who thinks they contain something with a black market value.

The four pistol case is great, I can fit six chimeras in the bottom foam, probably 60 miniatures in the egg crates above inside the case. And it's like $12 on amazon.

KR Multicase makes my favorite cases on the market. They have foam specifically sized for all kinds of vehicles, from Rhinos to Land Raiders to Monoliths. I can carry over 3000 points of Ultramarines in two of their cases, which ran me about $100.

I'd recommend investing a good case for your minis. Preferences vary, but you can't go wrong with KR or BF. Personally, I'm a fan of Battlefoam, having bought both a Battlefoam case and a KR case.

Either way, spend the money now and it should last you most of your gaming career. It'll protect your minis, the paintjob, and make it easy to travel and by extension, store if required.

Having drop pods in foam cases, even if customized, would waste a fair bit of space. A camera case for this purpose might be more appropriate. After all, camera bags keep the individual lenses safe enough. If you have 4-6 drop pods, this might be cheaper than battlefoam or kr.

The SM Striek force box holds 8ish rhino chassis snugly. So long as they're varnished and you don't drop the box, it works well I find. Foam gaks me so I stay clear from it to the extent I'm going to (one day) magnetise my models bases and carry them on trays.

I just put mine in a cardboard box with a few foam packing chips. So long as you're not simulating an earthquake within the box, they should be fine.

As someone who has packed pods in random scraps of foam in a generic case, it’s irritating. Unlike a lens, they are tapered, so getting them not to shift can be rough.

When I was looking at picking up custom foam, drop pods almost pushed to towards battlefoam over KR. The fact that they are not restricted to the standardized 1 KRU dimensions means they can have 6” tall foam trays. This lets them make a single tray that holds 8 pods. Even comparing same sized trays, the fact that they don’t have the modular design of KR lets them put 5 pods in the space KR would have 4. Now with KR, if I didn’t need all the pods, I could just swap out half the trays for something else, but for raw efficiency in packing, it’s hard to beat Battlefoam.

But because I shuffle my list around every time I play, KR’s adaptability won it a lot of points.

This is my suggestion also. It's called the Plano Protector 4 pistol case. Right now they're 12 bucks at Walmart. Not usually in stock, but they'll ship them to your nearest store for pickup for free.

Nice as is or with a bit of cutting. With a bit more DIY it can hold a ton of stuff. I just finished making one for a friend that holds about 170 basic IG infantry. Here's my tutorial.

I think I've converted about 10 now for all variety of miniature storage. This case is a bit more expensive than a box with some foam scraps, but if you do it right, the end result will be a case that is as sturdy and protective as the more expensive options but for a fraction of the cost.
