As to where I would like to be in M41?
A human farmer on some Tau-held world, deep within the Tau Empire.
Why not an agri-world deep in the Imperium?
Because the Imperium is a gakky place to live.

I reckon being a wealthy rogue trader with a fairly massive super baroque gothic trading ship might be pretty fun. Enjoy the best of all the Imperium offers as well as being able to cherry pick the interesting/tantalising offered by the less hostile zenos species.

I can't recall anything in the Black Library pointing to the Imperium giving a damn about the sexual orientation of somebody or their identifying gender. Just so long as they do their job, do it right, and don't have more than four limbs and one mouth.

Given the amount of body modification that they allow to those that can afford it, I doubt the Imperium gives the shadow of a damn on transgenders .

Well, I guess it makes total sense that a lesbian that is into sadomasochism would live with another lesbian that is also into sadomasochism, because obvious reason . The transgender is a bit more surprising though.

realistically, like many here speculate, i'd probably just be a regular imperial citizen, probably working in some scholarly or manufacturing kind of occupation.
what would i like to be? an ork mek, building supercharged kustom buggies and wagons, bristling with skorchaz, cuz there's nothin' like spewing burning promethium all over your enemies, and then racing off to do it to someone else.

Considering the Imperium is also completely fine with those fish abhumans that spouted gills and I presume to look like deep ones or something like it, the idea the Imperium purges people for the slightest deviations is a bit unsupported. It's only when you get into the territories of Beast Men or Chaos taint that the hammer of wrath comes down.

Depends on what planet you live on. On some worlds, you will be burned at the stake as a witch for the crime of possessing a com-bead.

I was thinking more along the lines of Chaos Taint (perhaps my favorite Black Crusade mutation for the dark gods alongside Tzeentchian chaos arm) so it was very much heretical. I was just having fun with the "as long as" part.
Besides that, as mentioned by Psi, certain planets would freak out even if it was just a simple mutation.

LIke most people, including everyone else in this thread, I would probably live a short, fairly miserable life in a hive city, doing menial labor and/or factory work.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.
