Subject: Space Marines Using Performance Enhancing Drugs?

The injectors deliver a cocktail of potent, highly dangerous drugs drugs, including the banned combat drug called 'Slaught', once favoured by such notorious Space Marine Chapters as the Flesh Tearers and World Eaters
I've never thought about this, but is it possible the Space Marine chapters have access to combat stimulants to improve their performance in battle? Are there any repercussions to a chapter using these sorts of drugs? What effect does it have on the Marines involved?

If they can get it past their internal toxin filters, then its probably pretty effective. One might imagine that the Flesh Tearers and the World Eaters are pretty good examples of why it is bad to play with drugs too much

I'd imagine that AADA, the Astartes Anti-Doping Agency, would very much frown on that... It is probably heresy of some sort

A space marine's Power Armor has a fully stocked automatic medical dispensor. Some of it is medicines and trauma drugs for when he takes a really bad hit. Some is stabilizing drugs just for keeping him working - not every succesful marine recruit can keep on ticking without additional drugs to keep his superhuman physique from killing him. And some are probably performance enhancing drugs... Combat drugs, mind-altering substances and anything else that doesn't have as much a clear medical need as boosting combat performance.

Not any more. They got told off for taking 'slaught, apparently, and went cold turkey.

It is never explicitly stated as far as I know, but there are some indications that Blood Angels and their successors sometimes use blood from their Sanguinary Priests as boosters during combat.

Given that there are some IG regiments which use PEDs, I wouldn't think it odd if marines did too. They probably have drugs which would kill a normal human instantly though.

I'm pretty sure the Emperor's Children take drugs.
Well enough that up from 20 to 80% of their bloodstream is quite literally drugs.
Also that they make drugs out of people.

The Flesh Tearers take drugs?
Siege of Vraks II states that the Flesh Tearers did take a very volatile combat stimulant called 'Slaught, which was also used to power the Khornate Ogryns.

Astartes warplate is fitted with automatic dispensers of opiates for pain suppression and stimulants for enhancing functionality in combat. It always has been. Given everything else done to their physiology and enhanced adrenal and lymphatic systems, the systems in the warplate are essentially external backups.

If I remember right, when the Space Wolves drink beer, there's an drug in it that prevents them from being sober. If a normal human drinks the beer then they die.

One of the plants they use to make it has a toxin that stops the implant from detoxing it but then you need to drink a lot in rapid succession to actually get drunk. Although when you drink it without being a Space Marine it eats through your guts...

I vaguely remember Combat Drugs (similar to the DE ones) being available to characters with the mark of Slaanesh in an earlier edition codex. I want to say it was the 3.5 one.
I also remember that Fabius Bile's backpack is all about the drugs.

Yes. They're part of a Space Marine's diet even-- they're described as having chemical diets, and take massive amounts of hormones as part of the process of becoming a Space Marine.

Wangtastic.
It's fairly likely that some chapters use drugs to boost combat power, we know that at least one legion used such things. I wouldn't put it past them. Automatically Appended Next Post:
