We had an apoc game over the weekend, and a load of rules questions came up because i was using Imperial Armor 8 for my stompas. Example, I can not find where it says to use the new lifta-droppa rules anywhere in the FAQs... so we ended up using the rules in the IA8, some people felt that it was wrong and i am to use games-workshop's rules for everything that is in my IA8 book. The manager at the games-workshop we were playing at said that Forgeworld and Games-Workshop are different publications and do not overlap. We were thinking they would have updated the Imperial Armor books to work with 7th edition, or at least 6th edition somewhere.

You should use the rules in the book the unit comes from, and apply any changes if an updated FAQ or Errata exists. So, you played it correctly.

The only Imperial Armor 8 FAQ I found has 3 entries for orks in it, and it all pertains to the mecha dreadd. I am unsure if Imperial Armor Apocalypse books change these, no one at the store had them, we just played it as it was.

i believe you played correctly and also think they are redoing those ia books (been waiting for ia 8 to get redone actually)

They are slowly redoing the books. IA4SE was just announced on their blog today.

I got the official answer:

Thank you for your email. You should always use the latest published rules. In this case the latest rules would be those contained in the Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse Rulebook.

If there is anything further we can do to assist you, or if you have any queries about the information we have requested or provided, please telephone us.

Unfortunately, no one trusts "official" email responses, because there is no way to authenticate it yet hundreds of easy ways to fake one.

I think the old book states you don't need to roll to hit with the lifta-droppa, which is not the case any more.

A similar debate was had about Corsairs a while back, with respect to their Craft world gear. Most saw RAW as use IA11, but consensus seemed to be use the updated rules anyways (which is what FW suggests). This seems to be the same deal.

If someone told me that their stompa was 400 points because it was IA8, when they very clearly have rules in the new codex that rightly price them nearly double that, I would decline the game. Like the last game I played where someone wanted to use his contemptor dread. Well he ended up using the OLD rules where it can move and still have skyfire, even though it has been updated and he HAS the updated book in question. He said he "forgot". Thing is, this isn't the first time he has "forgot" as the guy he played last week asked if he was using the updated rules or not in our game.

This above all else, is why people don't like forgeworld. The books aren't readily available in store except from the source using it, and who knows if they are just WAAC tactics. I just outright refuse forgeworld now.

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

WatchDragon, the problem is as follows:

Thank you for your email. You should always use the latest published rules from the Imperial Armour books. In this case the latest rules would be those contained in Imperial Armour 8: The Raid on Kastorel-Novem.

Here we have an e-mail that says the opposite of what you posted.

Now of course I fully admit in this case that I made changes, however, if I didn't make this claim, someone else could come along see the post, and assume that FW said something else. Since e-mails can easily be spoofed, as the above example shows, it is not usually a good idea to use them as proof.

That said, from what I've seen FW, at least, is consistent with their rulings, so I expect that if anyone else e-mailed htem tehy would get the same reply.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
