So...

I play biker armies as much as I can and my brother made a comment after playing in the ATC that got me worried.

I always thought that the test for Dangerous Terrain only occurs during your movement phase and the initial charge of the Assault phase.

Is that still true?

What about the beginning of your initiative step, you move up to 3" to get into BtB (still in terrain)... is that another separate test?

What about at the end of your assault, during followup move (still in terrain)... is that another test as well?

If true... then, yeowsers!

You now explicitly take dangerous terrain tests as normal during pile-in moves. Assaulting into terrain with bikes in 7th edition is pretty dicey (though any model with skilled rider just shrugs it off)

meh... still a 1 in 6, and then the armor save.... So once in 18 times you will lose a single bike. Sure, rather avoid it if you can, but nothing to get overly worried about.

Once in 18 times, with a squad of six charging and moving through terrain is one dead in that turn on average..

you will only ever take one dangerous terrain test per phase. so if you charge into dangerous terrain, you'll take a dangerous terrain test. the subsequent pile-in is still in the same phase, so does not cause additional tests. in the opponents turn, if you pile in you'll have to test, but again only once per phase.

Citation?

Not that I disagree... just want to point it out to my opponent.

p108. Once a model has taken a Dangerous Terrain test for a particular scenery model, it does not test for that terrain again in the same phase.

Note how you can take multiple Dangerous Terrains for multiple different pieces of scenery.

Yeah in 6th you made one no matter how many you drove through. Now it's once per piece of terrain, per move. So moving, charging, piling in, end-of combat pile in, and consolidation all force tests.

Agree with your opponent that multiple small ruins or wood templates should be considered one piece for these purposes, else you're in for a world of hurt.

Thanks... I see it now. It's not as bad as I thought it would be.

Nope, in fifth it was one per phase, sixth changed to one per piece of terrain.

Being limited to making one DT test per piece of scenery per phase does help assaulting into terrain
