Unless it's a relic, like the flavour text implied. Or costs 30+ pts. Makes me wonder how much a helfrost will cost on a dread, seeing as it doubles between a weaker plasma cannon and a lance.

And, indeed, if you can somehow manage to slap a helfrost cannon and the shield onto it, well... that'll be one hell of a rifle-nought.

My eternal cynicism says that you'll have to exchange a Dread's ranged weapons to take the axe and shield as a pair though, like the Wraithknight's option to swap both Wraithcannons for the sword and shield.

Yeah, and since it apparently is Venerable only, you'd end up with a really expensive Dreadnought with 3 attacks(assuming the shield grants one more from being a weapon)

That's not really that scary.

Wrong Helfrost, the one listed in the blurb about the plastic box set says Helfrost Cannon, which is much weaker and is worse than a Multimelta in most ways.

Helfrost cannon
dispersed - R24" S6 AP3 Heavy 1, Helfrost, Blast
focussed - R24" S8 AP1 Heavy 1, Helfrost

Helfrost destructor
dispersed - R24" S6 AP3 Heavy 1, Helfrost, Large Blast
focussed - R24" S8 AP1 Heavy 1, Helfrost, Lance

The quote I'm going off of
" This multi-part plastic kit includes many of those weapons, from the apocalyptically cold helfrost cannon to the great wolf claw"

I think the Helfrost is like the melta for characters as opposed to vehicles considering it's an instant removal if the model hit by it fails its strength test.

Lame. Guess it's only good for the mediocre plasma cannon part. Still probably going to be 15 or so points. Only 24 inch range though... Idk how'll they'll price the helfrost rule, which is meh considering you'll likely spend his shots on tac marines or bikes.

Now... Helfrost vs eternal warrior, go!

I was thinking helfrost would be good vs characters, but most are s6 or have a 2+ save. (Against the blast) or a good invuln vs focused. But Los, short range, and lack of ap2 on. The blast... Meh

It would mainly be useful for single targets in that regard, since characters will LOS in a unit.

Using a Carnifex as an example(poor nids). Assuming it is twin-linked(it better be to be worth it IMO), it will take on average about 8 shots to insta kill a Carnifex. And that's not even factoring in how often that will just be removing the last wound and killing the model anyway. The switch from I to S check(jaws to helfrost) has really been in the favor of MC. So not very reliable, but funny when it happens.

If they had it made it the helfrost destructor that would have been great. If only.

VS eternal Warrior is a non issue. It is not an instant death effect from the wound but from failing an strength check. Instant death being outlined as is I do not think there is any need to try and spark that argument.

The helfrost canon is just a fancy missile launcher with half the range. I really don't get all that exitement for it. The S test is just a gimmick that might have an effect once in a few games.
Given how huge the destructor is on the flier, I don't think it would fit on another vehicle

And the AP1 is also nice to actually get those explosions.

For the record, I like Murderfang's fluff. The idea of a name being lost but the legend living on is very SW, As for the naming, it's no worse than a lot of other things.

So we've gone from maybe we'll get a 3++ but unlikely to we get a 3++ that you can thump people with

Although surely this means that the dread is basically Captain America...

Sweet, first we have Wolverine-Dread, now we have Captain Dread. I'm gonna get another one with a seismic hammer and put a cape on him for DreadThor. Anyone know where I can get a shapely dread clad in skintight leather for Dread Widow?

Literally assemble, can someone get the Techpriests to reattach Hulkdread's left arm? He keeps taking it off.

This, no different to Jaws and Warp Rift.
Yeah, no different, except for the fact it's completely different.

Jaws was "if model is on line, take Ini test". Helfrost is "roll to hit, roll to wound, roll save if you have one, if unsaved wound, THEN roll strength test". The chance of pulling it off is much slimmer and most things you're going to want to use it against are S5 or higher so that they only have a 1/6 chance of failing.

It's something that every now and then might make a difference, but most the time you'll kill them with regular wounds before you Helfrost them to death. Though I do think it's a bit of a stupid rule because it's one of those things that most games will do nothing and then one game will take out a Wraithknight first shot... it's one of those things that's highly luck dependent and the results swing from "not remotely significant" to "wow that's awesome".

Ally in a wraithlord. Shapely and elegant is a xenos trait, not imperial. Alternatively: Penitent engine.

But wait until he’s done beating people to death with his own arm before getting to work.

Well considering Unwieldy was only brought into existence in 6th...
Prior to that, Power/Chainfists and Thunderhammers simply struck at Int1. But no walker were equipped with them, they all had Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons which was a Power Weapon (ignore armour saves) and doubled your strength.

Page 174, Unwieldy states:

'A model attacking with this weapon Piles In and fights at Initiative step 1, unless it is a Monstrous Creature or a Walker.'

In 6th it was under the walker rules.
