Having messed around with several different SM factions I made this BA list and wondered if it would be semi-competitive?

When making this list I wanted to use as many assault marines as possible within the points limit I had but also make a fairly durable army, here's the list:

HQ

Captain: 160pts
- Power sword
- Storm shield
- Jump pack

Troops

Assault squad(5): 125pts
- Powerfist

Assault squad(5): 120pts
- Flamer
- Infernus pistol

Assault squad(5): 120pts
- Plasma pistol
- meltabombs

Elites

Sanguinary Priests(3): 225pts
- Jump pack

Any comments or improvements would be appreciated

In a word: no.

No, jump pack armies are not competitive. If you want advice to make it better, make one big squad and one smaller. Sang priest with big squad.

Turn cap into libby. that will save some points, give the squads meltas. Put the libby with big squad. Keep little squad near big squad for FNP.

Assault Marines squads of only five guys are pretty weak and will get wiped out quickly.
Also note that third of your points are invested in three (3) models with only one wound and 3+ save.

At these points it would be better to have two squads of 10 marines and try to survive with one Priest.

And Sillycybin's advice is also very good.

I would go with something like this:

Captain, 145 points
(Jump Pack, power Sword, melta bombs)

Sanguinary Priest, 75 points
(Jump Pack)

Assault Squad (10), 235 points
(2x Meltaguns, Power Fist)

Assault Squad (10), 215 points
(2x Flamers, Power Sword/Plasma Pistol, up to you)

After this you would have 90 points left.
It would be enough for another Priest, or you could drop that second squad to include only five marines and then add something bigger, like a tank.

The above list looks pretty good but I would switch out the captain for a lvl 2 libby which is only 5 points more and he comes with a power sword and jump pack.

I wouldn't take a plasma pistol it's just a waste of points and having a 1 in 6 chance of killing yourself is never great.

I would drop the power fist and power sword and grab 5 missile devastators if my math is right.

Something like this is what I would suggest:

Libby w/ Jump Pack and ML 2-150
2x SP w/ Jump Packs-150
Assault Marines (x10) w/ 2x meltas and infernus pistol-225
Assault Marines (x10) w/ 2x meltas and infernus pistol-225

That's a good jump army to me.

I like the above ^ one thing I could do though

give the sang priests a power fist, or axe if points don't allow.

why? he is WS5 so hits lots of things on 3s AND has 2 base attacks so with an axe on the charges thats 4 str6 ap2 hits at WS5

First, thankyou all for your comments!

Second, I'm liking the idea of making a larger squad and smaller squad, with the libby and sang priest attached, thanks for your suggestions

Maybe I'm being stupid here but I thought a power axe gave +1 S, not that makes a huge difference and I definitely agree with giving the Sanguinary Priest a power weapon instead of the infernus pistol

sang priest give furious charge, so on the charge its +1 +1 so str 6.

Sorry I was getting confused between Furious Charge and Rage it happens quite often to be honest.

More bodies without special weapons is better than less with.

not quite true, I would much rather have a power weapon on my Sgt than 1 extra marine.

This is pretty accurate. Blood angels captains are pretty lackluster though, and generally are better served being either librarians or reclusiarchs. The reclusiarch is just as good as a captain in close combat (if no better) and buffs his squad. Taking this list to 1k frees up space for a reclusiarch with a fist and pack, and then something meaty like a baal predator or vindicator. Jump armies are difficult to play because of a lack of transport, so you have to rely on your speed to win you the day.

Colour me interested. Why do you feel that way? A BA ASM model is iirc, 2 points more than a power weapon. And this weapon actually makes your Sgt much more likely to actually kill something.even win a challenge!

I actually am interested.

^Agreed

For 1000 points take 2x10 Assault Marines, Librarian or Reclusiarch and a Sanguinary Priest.
After that, you should have something like 300 points left.

You could take:
- another Assault Squad and Priest
- 3x Attack Bikes with MMs and a Priest on Bike
- couple of tanks. Two Baal Predators would suit the list well. They are fast and thusly able to keep up with your army, providing los-block and cover from anti-infantry weaponry.
- Furioso Dreadnought with Frag Cannon and Drop Pod. Try it, you can thank me later.

The attack bikes would work well with there MMs. I would actually back away from the tanks. Gives something for enemy AV to shoot at.

Though if you take the fragioso in pod you can grab another priest (with a powerfist!) For your second marine squad.

Oh god. The frag pod. Furioso with a frag cannon and heavy flamer will off a 10 man squad of marines in a single go. Or striking scorpions. Or warp spiders. Or a guard platoon.

Well, I know this is unorthadox, but really it's just that with ASM you have to get them into combat. It doesn't matter if you have a special weapon if they die. So they kill one, you still have 5 to get there...now I would definitely take a power fist at a full man squad, or a melta or something.

That's just my reasoning, don't really want to start a debate here :-)
