Hey guys,
so I kind of want to make my own Realm of Battle board. Any tips on how to do one? Also, what is the standard size used? I just know what the tables at my local store look like and I wanna say 6' x 6'. Thanks!

The realm of battle is 6x4, most standard gaming boards are 6x4.

Or at least the "game" area is commonly 6x4.

The realm of battle board is made up of 2x2 squares.

Depending on the quality you want, and how durable, making one is either fairly easy, to quite challenging.

Take a look at your;
* wood working skills (in case you make the frames of the squares out of wood)
* wood working tools
* area to work in, and keep projects out long term
* skills in working with foam
* experience in working with terrain.

If you don't have these skills/experience - thats ok. Everyone started one time, and I even cringe at the stuff I made when i started out years ago.

Go to youtube, and watch as many terrain making videos as you possibly can - I mean dozens and dozens of them.

You will find thousands.
A few channels I would suggest are terrainaholic and rubbishinrubbushout.

Also do some searching on "modular wargaming tables" which will help a lot - as others have done some of this before.

See if you can find some experienced terrain guys in your area, and seek their advice.

If you really want to do this, you will be be successful at it, even it will be a bit of work.

After you have some more ideas on what you want and can make, give us a few more questions.

best of luck!

You can make a frame like they do in the tutorial, or you can just use 2" thick foam and cut it to size.

I cut out some 2' x 2' boards and my next plan is either to cover them with some kind of sealant or go pure sand/glue/plaster of paris. The board is a kind of pressboard so it won't really sand without falling apart.

what are your thoughts on what would cover it best? I'm really just going to start with a sand terrain and cover the boards, then make some hills/terrain to add later.

On my own personal board I used sand mixed with a mis-tinted gallon of house paint i picked up at home depot. I used that as a base coat, then used camo spray paint and a light drybrush to finish. Not the best looking table, but it gets the job done and looks decent.

Textured paint, similar to thick masonry paint is good.

This thread lacks pictures. :p

Be sure to convert this thread into a progress thread. I just love watching projects in action, and then seeing the final product. Very inspirational and such.

Good luck, friend. It will be a blast!

Will do! I'm trying to take it one square at a time for ease of project, but thanks for the motivation!
