So which of the two do you think is more scary in general. This goes from facing in combat, being captured by, and general lifestyle. Don't say BOTH!

My vote goes to Dark Eldar. Their entire society is based on pain and suffering of anyone who faces them.

A chaos space marine will tear you apart with his bare hands. He will shoot you until you are a pile of blood and meat on the floor. But you will die quickly or, worst case scenario, in the near future.
Ofcourse, there are some chaos space marine warbands that will torture you such as Night Lords.

The point is: All the pain that chaos marines can cause is pale and non-existant to what Dark Eldar can do to you.

Dark eldar. Csm just kill you and mutilate you body. Dark eldar make you suffer to the very end.

Either one is an acceptable answer. Chaos Space Marines may just kill you, but it's equally likely that they could decide to use in some sort of ritual or whatever, which could be just as horrific as any torture. I would take eventual death over being turned into a daemon-host, for example.

Dark Eldar, in battle they work so much harder to instill terror that a planet that is raided by them would WISH they were being attacked by Chaos. There was this one Hive World that the Dark Eldar raided, here is how they did it;

Firstly, using pre-fall tech the Dark Eldar blocked out all light. Then they cut the power. The world was in complete Darkness.

Then the Dark Eldar dropped off Urghuls and Warp Beasts into the Darkness to hunt, but worst of all the let the Mandrakes in.

Thirdly, Profit! When the Dark Eldar landed, the populace practically walked into the slave ships because it was better then being trapped in the Dark with Mandrakes. That is the stuff of horror movies.

Dark eldar, even night lords are green and inexperienced vs there worst terrors and tortures.

They may be bad but dark eldar are the true masters of fear.

But... Its says in the uplifting primer that if you commit suicide then you get erased from all records..

I honestly would say CSM.. Because Night Lords and Slannesh... remember DE will make you suffer, until you die... Slannesh and the Emperor's Children still makes you suffer after you die

Also to not that DE are scared shirtless by CSM and Slannesh, because they take their should for their own malicious purposes..

Depends on the CSM. As mentioned above, Emperor's Children with daemon allies would probably be infinitely worse than Dark Eldar due to soul-rape. Even after your body dies, you're still not safe. Dark Eldar however are worse than every other CSM warband.

In battle, CSM, since with the DE you could at least score a lucky hit and kill one, since they're so fragile. CSM are giant possessed super soldiers in power armour. You will not make it.

Overall though, DE, for many of the reasons mentioned above.

As far as saying that Slaanesh CSM are worse, I don't think so. For one thing, the Slaanesh club is more inclusive. You could always pledge your loyalty, and have a slightly less torture filled role as a cultist. Heck, after a while as a Slaaneshi cultist, you'll learn to like it. And from there, you might even be able to work your way up to becoming a big Chaos demagogue. With DE, if you're not Eldar, it's straight to the torture chamber. Also, there's a good chance a Slaanesh CSM will just kill you while drugged and caught up in the adrenaline of battle. Noise Marines fight to kill all the time. DE ALWAYS fight to take captives alive.

Overall, Dark Eldar. Chaos Space Marines are variable. Yeah sure, you'll have some that are just as bad, if not worst than most DE but you are far more likely to get a faction that will maybe mutate you, maybe torment you, more likely really just manipulate you and kill you when you aren't convenient. Dark Eldar? Their entire point is to torment. It's basically if CSM were only Slaaneshi marines, then the field is far more even but overall DE are far worse.

Also, DE can keep people alive almost indefinitely for torture. When I read some fluff about someone who had basically had all their body parts (organs, skin, nervous system, etc.) surgically opened up, but was still kept alive and fully conscious by a Haemonculus... well that pretty much settled it for me.

Technically both could probably keep you alive if they wanted. One by sciences and one by magic/souls. That said, DE are far more likely to want to which further compounds the answer. Gimme the Chaos Space Marines!

Don't forget that DE can literally turn you into furniture.

One of the Haemy covens has a gigantic tower built from the still living flesh of their tortured subjects. They're all still alive, just put to new use as walls, floors, ceilings, tables, ect. Imagine having your hyper stimulated nerve bundles walked on every day for the rest of eternity. Lanterns and stuff down in the haemy lairs are also just living subjects. They weave them into the wall, pry their mouth open, and use it as a place to hold burning flames. They will not let you die; the rest of your existence, which could be until the Dark City falls, will be to have a flame constantly burning inside of your body.

It is more scary to be captured by DE. Their methods of torture are much more advanced and prolonged.

Depends on the legion.
World Eaters, Alpha Legion and Iron Warriors? No, they just want you dead as quick as possible
Death Guard? You died choking on your bloody vomit before they came within eyesight
Thousand Sons? Ehh, the worst they could do to you is turn you into a spawn but by then your mind is gone.
Black Legion? Depends, probably not
Night Lords? Maybe. A warband like Talos' no, the longest any of their victims lasted was a few days but some of the others that followed Curze all the way down the rabbit hole, yes.
Word Bearers? Yes. It dosent end in biological death.
Emperor's Children? Most definetly.

Dark eldar are afraid of chaos. When notorious torturers are more afraid of something else rather than what they do...it's not an accident.

Not so much Chaos in general- Mainly Slaanesh- She Who Thirsts.

Dark Eldar are afraid of Chaos (Slaanesh actually, not really Chaos in general) because it unravels their ego trip. Eldar of all walks are supremely arrogant, but at the same time they have to come to terms with the fact that they all damned themselves thousands of years ago because they were.. Well, so arrogant.

Dark Eldar refuse to acknowledge this failure, and indeed revel in it and claim it wasn't a failure at all. They fear Chaos (again, primarily Slaanesh) because it counter-acts everything they want to be, everything they base their lives on, and everything they believe they are. They want to think that they are the masters of their own destiny; penultimate predators born to stalk the lesser races and drink in their suffering that it might amuse them. Yet they are anything but the masters of their own destiny, and as much as they want to color themselves as apex predators, an even greater hunter waits on the other side of the veil. Patiently watching until he(she) can show them the error of their ways.

Being killed in the most gruesome possible way by CSM is better than being taken alive by DE. CSM torture will most likely kill you after a while. DE torture could last for centuries...

I am not sure what source it came from though I believe it was Lexicanum. It was a couple years ago I read that Guardsmen bring extra munitions against Dark Eldar so they can commit suicide if capture is imminent. A las shot to the head is far better than any fate the Dark Eldar offer.

It might have been removed or whatnot, if you do find it then cheers but it makes sense a guardsmen would rather smite him/herself to avoid such a fate.

Those Marked by Slaanesh scare the Dark Eldar, for they know that once they lose their souls will be given to Her so that He may feast.

They may scare everyone else, but those given to Slaanesh are their true fear.

That's... not generally how the Imperium works. The Imperium cares not for the suffering of its citizens, only that their lives are spent to the preservation of the Imperium.

You may as well keep shooting at them so they are forced to kill you?

Um, if you were fighting Dark Eldar and you had the choice to blow your brains out or be forever tortured...which would you choose? I mean, I would just kill myself, honestly.

But that's just what I believe and since the information I refer to doesn't exist on Lexicanum anymore, it can't be proven.

You know what, I would just put a dozen lethal pills in my mouth and continue fighting. Then when they got me and are dragging me away...I swallow....and I die. Problem solved.
