So I have an upcoming match vs my buddies ogres. He has no cannons but will be running 8 mourn fangs and a bunch of lead Belchers. Lots of bulls and ironguts. I have access to

Slann
Scar vet cowboy
Skink priests
Saurus characters on foot
8 kroxigors
40 Saurus warriors
30 skinks
6 salamanders
2 stegadons
Jungle swarms
Cold one riders

What units work best vs ogres. What is the best way to deal with large blocks of bulls and ironguts. The game will be 2.5k or 3k. Thanks.

I think that list tailoring is just as bad as cheating IMO, it sounds like he's not tailoring for you, but your going to for him? Why don't you write a list out n post it in the lists section, then people will comment on how to get a strong list, but not tailored

I don't know. Most times in history you knew what army you were going to fight. It's not like the armies of the world just blundered around and happened to find other armies blundering around.

He made a very general statement. Big ogres, 2.5k-3k. That's not exactly tailoring.

But I would say use as many skinks as you can. Get 2 stegadons with Sharpened Horns. Use a Slann and shut down the enemy's magic. Give someone a Piranha Blade.

Eh, if it's between friends, whatever works for the both of you is fine. Tailored vs Tailored can create some interesting dynamics that venture out of the TAC mainstays of many armies. My coworkers and I basically do that by creating double blind lists to fight each other with, where we know who we're going against but have to 'lock in' our lists before we can see each others'. It creates a lot of diversity and fun mind games.

Now, if you're playing at your FLGS and someone is looking for a game with an army that's basically on the table already, and you happen to have a list that crushes that sort of thing in your back pocket to replace your general TAC list... well, it's probably not going to win you any friends, I'd agree.

As for actual advice for the OP, sadly I'm not well versed enough in either army to comment.

To be fair, Ogres are kind of an outlier army. Some things which are not necessarily useful/common to use against other armies actually end up having a place against Ogres.

He does know what he's going to fight, he's going to fight ogres.

Look sharpened horns is awesome against ogres. But it is not an I win button. Get the usuals lots of skinks cowboys slann ( don't take death that takes all the skill out) a couble of ancients ( my friend calls em shotguns (4d6shots) go to town. Alsob bastilidons could be useful tarpits and buff wagons to you. Leave the rippers at home.

Also kroxis against regular ogres is fun

Yea I love my kroxigors and Will love to see how they do vs the ogres. It is a friendly game between friends I don't know his exact list and he does not know mine just the armies we are playing. So it's not list tailoring and I just wanted a general idea in how to deal with the big chunks of monstrous infantry. Should I go MSU to give him to many targets, should I block up all my Saurus into a horde. I'm used to fighting elves lol so this battle is really going to be different.

Big unit of Razordons is really good against ogres.
A block of 6 (under 400 points), will be putting down ~2 ogres a turn at range, much more up close or on the stand and fire.
In combat, 12 S5 attacks at init 4, and upto 24 S3 attacks at S3 and unit 4 will put a big dent in whatever survives the peppering.

Problem with cowboys is cannons; though saurus cav isn't bad against ogres (WS4!).

Be very wary if he takes a Helheart on one of his characters. They can be pretty nasty to your casters.
