Apparently "The Emperor's Gift" goes into greater detail. While I have not read it others have said that the Grey Knight Hyperion (with Psychic support I think) breaks Angron's blade for instance.

Yes, he had a little help, but not from anywhere close to 100 Grey Knights. When Angron was defeated the Daemons were banished, and there were only a handful left. Hyperion was one of them and he was out of action at that point.

If those Knights hadn't died first the wonderful Captain and Hyperion would already be dead therefore they were needed.

But turn about is fair play, Angron was plenty juiced from all the genocide and skull temples too.
Mephiston also defeated Doombreed with the help of the Blood Angels, drawing upon their rage. But Doombreed had been doing that as well.

Have you actually read the old story of Angron's banishment?

I have.

About thirty other Grey Knights channeled all of their psychic power and blasted Angron with a purifying spell so powerful he was literally transparent, barely able to maintain his grip on the materium. Only then did Taremar kill Angron's vessel by beheading.

The Emperor.

If he had just stayed in his cave the Necrons/Tyranids would have brought "peace" to the galaxy long ago.

Necrons: 4000+ pts
Tyranids: 1000+ pts

Emperor's Children: 1500+ pts
Minotaurs: 2000+ pts (killed by Primaris, thanks GW)

I have read the story, and even if you were correct at thirty Grey Knights, it would still be a far cry from a hundred.

"He staggered towards Angron, using his force halberd to steady himself as his breath wheezed in his chest. The Grey Knights closed on their leader, forming an impenetrable shield wall around him as they fought their way towards Angron. The Daemon Primarch saw his foe approach and reared up to his full height, bellowing a furious challenge. Lesser mortals might quail before this monster, but Aurellian and the Grey Knights had been steeled to face the worst horrors of Chaos without flinching. Less than two dozen of them were still alive"

So here we have less than 24 Grey Knights, before they even get a shot at Angron.

"More Grey Knights fell, their blood mingling on the cratered earth as Angron and Aurellian finally came face to face."

Even less than 24 now.
And as he's dueling with Angron

"He could see his men were fighting bravely, but were falling one by one. Before long they would all be dead."

At this point he calls his Brothers together for a psychic attack, which weakens but does not banish Angron. Four die in the process including Aurelian himself as he physically delivers the final blow. Angron's forces vanish with his banishment.

Only 10 Grey Knights are left at the end.

So at most there were 13 Knights channeling Aurelian, likely less as some where doubtless incapacitated, such as Whatshisface from the ADB novel. Far cry from 30, much farther cry from 100.
