If you want gunline, look at Corsairs from Forge World. Each 'Guardian' type foot soldier has a lasblaster, 24" range, every fifth Corsair can have a Shuriken Cannon and they all can grab jump packs. Add in some special Wasp War Walkers, also a troop choice, and you can have yourself a very nice gunline style army, or mobile at the drop of a hat with the jump packs. But regular Guardians, not really a gunline at 12" range..

DAs suck for a gunline. 18" and battlefocus, yes, but most Marines will kill them gunline vs gunline with ease.

Guardians give you 1 heavy weapon per 10 guys. THat means a brightlance with 10 wounds to protect it. ANd if anything gets close, they get a *lot* of shots.

Despite the shorter range, Guardians are more the gunline troop than Avengers.

Jet Packs, not Jump. Meaning they can all be Relentless.

Of course they don't get some of the special rules that normal Eldar have (Battle Focus), or Bladestorm.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I'd include some Jetbikes if I was going more footdar. I know technically it's not foot that way, but the speed of the jetbikes is what you need with a foot list. A way to respond to incoming threats as well as grab those distant objectives.

OP - Been playing Eldar since 2nd edition so here is my 2 cents - They are a tremendously rewarding army to play. Currently they have some super high powered builds, but also have the ability to field almost any unit in the codex and get some results from it. Often times you will be outnumbered as the Eldar do come at a premium, but are often well worth their cost. Each aspect is specialized in one or two different roles, and when they are able to be used successfully in their roles, they can be extremely point efficient.

I used to equate playing Eldar as being an Orchestra Director (and this analogy is true with a lot of low model count armies) - you have all of your instruments, but it is up to you to coordinate them and create a beautiful symphony of destruction. Misdirection and utilizing their tremendous speed is the way to leverage Eldar to it's fullest. Trying to always get yourself into a position where a majority of your force is concentrating on a small portion of the enemy force. This is what gives that over-whelming firepower Eldar can be famous for. It is very easy for your to get twin-linking ( or guide/prescience), so the key becomes using these highly effective weapons on the right targets, by baiting in your opponent, and then snapping down on whatever ante they have offered up. Being too aggressive can lead to self destruction, as the Eldar are classically weak to the return fire (T3 hurts), but with experience you'll be able to mitigate this damage by destroying the most powerful enemy targets and using transports and misdirection to play with your opponents target priority.

Lately I have been running one of the more high powered builds, as I have been involved in the tournament scene in my area. I use a few Wave serpents for the bulk of the utility firepower, I use wraithknights to distract my opponent and bully themselves around the table, I use Crimson Hunters as a scalpel to remove any unwanted FMC or flyer, or even other high priority targets (broadsides), and finally I use Jetbikes and Warp Spiders as harassment units who dance around the battlefield creating frustration and confusion for my opponent. every unit has his role, and as long as they are given the opportunity to be used in that role, then the army functions at a very high level.

In the end, I love the Eldar, and have had so much fun playing them over the years and I encourage you to try them out. I'm always willing to give guidance and provide opinion based on my experience over the years, so please feel free to PM me. I do not claim to be an all knowing guru, and I have no tournament accolades to tout, but I have been playing for almost 20 years and with that experience there are few situations I haven't seen. Coordinating the strike is the key, and sometimes you have to look at the game from a hgiher level than just the dudes on the table to do this successfully, and I think experience can give you that ability. Good luck!!

Thanks for that description. I got used to playing low model count armies in the last few years since GKs are my main force. So eldar might actually be easy to pick up for me.

I'll probably wait to see what happens with the GKs when they get a new codex, but I had thought of trading them all for eldar. First I have to wade my way through all of my csm lol.
