Really depends. Only 40k video games I really played was SM and certain aspects of that game was canon and some weren't. I rather enjoyed slaughtering orks but it got out of hand when Titus slays both a Warboss and a Chaos Lord in such diligent fashion, not to mention killing dozens and dozens of Chaos Marines.

But the butchering of orks was alright

The best way to gain health though is simply to enter fury mode which makes time slow down, super charges melee attacks, and regens health.

executing an enemy still leaves you open to attacks so its unwise to do so midst combat.

Haha, uhhh yea, that was a bit of a fairy tale. Let's just say that it was a video game and shouldnt be taken to serious, but their are some things that make some sense.

All and none of them are canon. I picked all as that is closest to the truth.

Yea, not a fan of no thinking games so I will never have to use this knowledge haha. But yea stuff like that is more towards gamey rather than fluff cannon so you'd have to draw the line surely at some points to sort the game from the story.

I suspect the developers of Space Marine wanted to make your resilience reactive instead of passive, as that is more fun for gameplay, hence they represented your toughness with selfhealing instead of just ludicrous HP, or something to that effect.

Lorewise he probably did not selfheal everything.

Haha, now that I think about it you're right. But Space Marine was the funnest. All this Space Marine talk makes me want my Xbox back, dammit

Edit: lorewise, he would have been able to use cover and wear a helmet. Because you couldn't really use cover and it was a killer against Chaos Marines.

Thats pretty much the point im making. Like I think its one of the dawn of war games there is a planet or something where all the races are fighting at once. Seems a bit far fetched and I dont think thats happened before. Stuff thats there solely for game play and not story or anything like that must not be cannon. After all, who won that campaign? Its not set in stone so it cant really be cannon either etc.

I really enjoyed Space Marine, especially seeing some of the weapons in action (not to mention jet packs, which are amazing). I'd love a sequel in the near future.

Unfortunately, THQ went bankrupt and sequels have been canceled, I believe. Hopefully it gets resurrected sometime.

The funnest weapon by far was just the bolter imo. Loved it. I was a pro with it online too, haha

The planet Kronus in Dark Crusade, GW one-upped it by having absolutely everyone on Medusa V.

I believe the timeline of Dawn of War 2 assumes the Blood Ravens were victorious in Dark Crusade.

GW has certainly made some elements of the games canon: the Blood Ravens were invented for Dawn of War ~ so Relic could have a chapter they could do what they wanted with ~ and subsequently got their own Index Astartes article and rules in the 4th edition codex, whilst the Tau Rail Rifle was created specifically for the game Fire Warrior so the player could kill marines.

"Canon" is a very loose concept in 40K.

The whole idea behind the fluff is that it is a mixture of myth, lies, propaganda and mis-remembered history, distorted through the imperial viewpoint.

GW themselves have no hesitation in changing details and whole sections if it serves their purpose.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I voted none - but I don't even consider the current fluff edition to be canon.

generally speaking I consider general details to be canon, without the specifics. To use Dawn of war as an example, the general storyline of Dawn of War happened. but the specifics of unit mix, etc aren't what the game showed, and the blood ravens certinly never built a fortress monestary to train new troops in before every fight

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

This.

A few people who have written for GW have come out and said, basically, that "everything and nothing" is canon. They don't really enforce it all that much, so as to give their writers or any third-party writers more freedom. So, in answer to your question, it is up to you to decide for yourself.

Maybe the marine in question has damaged combat and healing drug dispensers and the local Techmarine linked the nanopumps up to piezoelectric generators in the knuckles of the armour. Punching stuff dispenses the required drugs

All we know is that the Blood Ravens lost. We're not told who won.

There is a popular rumour that the Imperial Guard won, but this is likely fanon, as there never seems to have been any proof of this claim.

Don't confuse game mechanics for cannon material. Punching things for health is a fun and challenging game mechanic that forces the player to fight aggressively and may be paying homage to the idea that space marines are inferior to regular humans in defensive roles and are of more suited for aggressive and assault oriented combat.

I don't see why not all the game could be cannon, the Galaxy is very large and very old.
