So, hello Dakka!.

I just recently watched the Mad Max: Fury road trailer, and i thought that the over the top violence and destruction was what 40k would be like, the pure gasoline themed explosive spiked beasts of cars just clicked in my mind to make a awesome Chaos renegade IG army.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46ir8Xd5QyE

So, the guys i want to make a army out of are the bald really pale guys who chase and fight Max in the huge spiky trucks and buggies, I'm thinking of making the tanks and such out of Ork trucks and chaos parts (easy enough right?).

Im just figuring out what to make the men out of...i mean I've been looking at crypt ghouls but i don't know what to do for the arms, catachans maybe>?...although a bit too cartoony and muscular for me.

Help Dakka.

Well for vehicles I would check the local Dollar Stores.
Infantry Models just start looking at the adds, most of them have what you are looking for.

For that you might want to look for old Necromunda Models, You will have to probably have to go with eBay.
Chaos Cultist would also work well.

I like the chaos cultist idea too, i also think that buying catachans and crypt ghouls, putting the ghoul torsos onto the catachan legs, and then using catachan arms would look good maybe?.

EDIT: Just saw that you're from the UK. Might make sourcing a bit more difficult, but I think BBurago and other 1/43 brands are available over there.

Consider using WHFB chaos Mauraders as the basis for your troops. Catachans and Chaos cultists are good options too. I don't know how cross-compatible those figs are, but I'm sure someone here knows.

If you'd like some inspiration for converting toy cars (I recommend 1/43 and 1/48 diecast, though some 1/32 might work) I've got a few how-to blog posts about that subject as my club does post-apoc gaming from time to time.

The cheapest 1/43 die cast are the Bburago vehicles avaialble for 2.50 each from Dollar General, though you can commonly find other 1/43 die cast online and at some stores for less than $8 each.
If you can't find what you're looking for, shoot me a PM, I bought alot of 1/43 die cast a year or so ago and may still have some available.

Best of luck with your project!

When looking for car models, check out hot rods, classic customs.

Stuff like these:
http://www.revell.com/model-kits/cars/street-rods.html

Can make really good buggies. Under the bodies they come with plastic model engines and the frame and suspension, so you can hack up the body and add cages using plasticard rod for a nice post apocalyptic look with exposed engines that can look pretty sweet. You can also chop the chassis to make the vehicles shorter so they fit better with the 40k aesthetic (40k vehicles tend to be not quite as long as real vehicles but taller than real vehicles).

There are some good Die Cast Metal ones out there too.
We get most of our Ork vehicles from Yard Sales and Swap-Meets.

The Marauder and Catachan kit are pretty much interchangeable, just some bits around the arms, like where the muscles are that you should watch out for

Also, using cars such as you guys have linked, and then adding some sort of massive wheels (Im sure there are some ork bits with massive wheels) to make it look like some monster truck in a way.

I also have a idea of making a chimera, get a pickup truck, dirty it and add spiky parts until it is not so pickup-like...and then add a cage in the back, so the infantry are thus transported like a chimera...simples!.

And then for the taurox.

Those cars on the sides, with the massive rods should be pretty good, have 5 guys on a few of the rods whilst the other 5 man the guns and such, a little bit of fluff there and some practicality.

I love the Tauros, I want 5 of them to use as Ork buggies, unfortunately they're vastly too expensive for me to buy 5 just to use as suicidal Ork buggies

One problem you might have if you want to use them as Chimeras is the dimensions. If your opponents don't care, it's fine, but Chimeras are 3.75" wide and 4.75" long. If you look at something like a 1/25 scale H2 Hummer, that's pretty much the correct width, but it's 7.5" long, so way too long. If you go for a smaller scale, you'll get the length right but it'll be too low and narrow.

As long as your opponents don't mind. But the scale issue is why I've been looking, for my Ork buggies, at using older hot rods (30's and early 40's) in a larger scale and then just chopping them down and adding in roll cages in place of body panels to make them shorter.

Maybe i could chop off a part of the back (I'm using a pickup toy) and then add a small cage to the back.

Hmm, maybe. I was thinking maybe Ogryns with a small midget in a basket on their back XD.

Although i don't think sentinels will really suit my army tbh.

Another way to compromise with dimensions is to place the counts-as model on a base of approximately the same dimensions as the vehicle it is replacing.

It won't please everyone, but it is a nice gesture.

For a Chimera, maybe a larger model than a pickup would work. It's not exactly the right size, but here's a big truck from my links above.

If you do want to stick with a pickup, a larger scale might work. Here's a 1/32 scale Jada Battle Machines Silverado that I did a bit of work with

The original toy even has a second (hull mounted…) gun on the hood.

They're technically OOP, but there's a couple on ebay now for less than $10 each.
Here's one my buddy did, with less conversion and a New-Ray brand Land Rover.

Here's a link to another 1/32 buggy and pickup that I built some time ago.

Are you deadset on using IG?

Seems Orks would be a better fit with their Trukks, Battlewagons, Buggies, Warbikers etc.

Wait, what, they don't accept Orks using chopped vehicles but they do accept IG using chopped vehicles? That's odd.

Personally I'm doing Orks for my post-apoc vehicles (well, I don't have an army, I just occasionally whip something up and always just make it Orkses). They just seem to suit it the best with all the fast and light vehicles.

A mix of Chaos Marauder, Catachan, and Ork bits should see you do pretty well. If you got a Taurox kit and an Ork Trukk kit, kitbashed the two together into two distinct vehicles, you'd definitely be able to get a pair of distinctive Mad Max-esque Tauroxes.

Edit: Actually, mixing in some Dark Eldar wyches parts would do really well, what with all the S&M gear and dynamic poses you'd want from raiders and the like.
