Hello Dakka, for a long time I've only used gray or black primer but now I need to switch to a white base for my Eldar. Any suggestions for a white primer that will give a good even coat with a small amount of paint in order to preserve detail?
I've tried the Krylon Hobby Craft spray paint white and it is a little runny for my liking. I have an airbrush that I could use as well if there is a specific airbrush paint that anyone has had good success with.
Thanks!

If you're talking about rattlecans, I use Armoury White Primer. It's good and it's cheap. Miniature Market has it.
For any that have airbrushes, Vallejo Surface Primer is the absolute bomb. Available in white, black, or grey.

Another vote for the Vallejo PU primers, since you've got an airbrush. I've only used the grey, personally, but I love it. It's quite light (even paler than the old Astronomicon Grey foundation paint), which makes it nice for building up weak colors without making them overly bright by default.

Hobby-branded primers are no different chemically than any other spray primer. You're paying the premium price for the name on the label. If that suits you, then cool. I've used Wal-Mart Color Place brand white primer and nothing bad has ever happened to any of my minis. Ever.
And it's 97 cents...

Awesome! Thanks all for the replies. I'll definitely get some of the Vallejo primer as it seems that the most people have had good luck with that.
@ the_Armyman - yeah, for black and gray I just grab the cheapest spray paint at Home Depot (also around a buck) and it works great. However the white didn't work for me, hence why I tried a little more expensive option

Same here. Been using this stuff since about the late 90's and never had any issues. Well, once I had a nozzle not want to stay or so I grabbed one off an old can and it worked fine.
