How excited do you get by GW's new army releases?
A lot! And I usually end up buying it :)
Quite a bit, actually...but I end up restraining myself
I'm happy for other players receiving new toys, but it doesnt affect me
Not at all. I only find the races I collect appealing

I know this is a tad more difficult to relate to, now that GW releases new stuff every week, but let's say we talk about armies being updated - i.e. a new codex and lots of new models replacing much of an already existing range.

How excited does your internal kid get when looking at the pics, even if they are from armies you do not play?

Do you end up starting a new army, or do you not - but find it hard to restrain yourself, or does it totally not faze you at all?

I originally started with 1 army (Eldar) but never really got into them till I discovered Black Templars which appealed to me a lot. Then I started Tau, now both of these armies I started NOT during a new release.

However, Imperial Guard, Grey Knights and Necrons were all more or less acquired during their last codex release because I got into a buying binge (also because by that time I had discovered discounted stores) but after that I havent started any new armies though I sometimes have found myself close to. The recent Ork release left me relatively unfazed, and the SWolf release looks super awesome for anybody into SW art design, but I personally am not really drawn by their style.

GW is scared of girls. Why do you think they have so much trouble sculpting attractive female models? Because girls have cooties and the staff at GW don't like looking at them for too long because it makes them feel funny in their naughty place.

Its nice to see others get new stuff.

After all...

Testing experimental hardware requires a large range of......subjects.... to gather sufficient data.

Only getting something for my troops (AM/IG) is exciting but its tempered by the length of time (being variable) and the possibility of whatever it may be being of questionable use when actual tested in combat.

The main problem with the game I think is the speed of the new releases, and how some seem to go under the radar. You need to know about all the other armies, not just your own, so you can plan your tactics against them. This was easy when there was a rules release every two months, but now they can come three times as fast, meaning you can't keep up with what others can do against you.

I collect BA, Necrons and CSM (also a very limited Inquisitor collection).
I now have the dexes for the above and: DA, Eldar, C:SM, Astra Militarum, Orks, Stronghold Assault, Inquisition (digital) and Imperial Knights (WD version, although I got a knight a few days ago :-D). I was amazed that I managed to resist buying the new nid dex as the old nid dex and the nid dexes before that one were always some of my favourite... hmmmmm... saying that, I should maybe pop down to the shops today.
I LOVE list building, almost as much as playing. I build lists of armies I don't have all of the time. Where some peoples hobby is the assembly (which I don't mind) and the painting (which I hate), mine is the list building and playing. It doesn't have to be competitive lists either. Alternative or fluffy lists are good too.

The only release I would still care for right now would be 8th edition that extremely streamlines the game and makes it more like 4th.

Orks were the only 40k release of an army I don't play in the last year where I was interested somewhat in the new stuff. Everything else wasn't too interesting with SW in particular being simply awful all round.

Nowadays, not at all.

A few years ago I would be pretty excited for even the armies I don't care about.

But now, seeing what the quality of the books are, I almost feel bad for some of the armies.

I tend to follow most releases, just out of interest and because if I ever manage to get a game any time soon I know what to look forward to...

The last time I bought anything from a new release was Dark Angels, although I'll be grabbing one of the new SW dreads for sure.

I've been super squee excited about the Orks release, even though I don't play orks and have no intention starting.

Eh, if the fluff or models are cool I enjoy seeing the new stuff, but ultimately it's just taking up more time before my favorites are updated.

With Chaos, Tzeench would probably turn your hands, feet and face into
scrotums, complete with appropriate nerve endings. Then Khorne would
force you and all your friends to fight to the death using your new
scrotal appendages. Once they get tired of that, you get tossed to
Slaanesh who <censored by order of the Inquisition>, until you finally
end up in Nurgle's clutches and he uses you as a loofah.

I'm always interested in new stuff, though I don't start new armies because of it. I like seeing new models and new rules, although the latter sometimes end up disappointing me.

It makes me learn new things but I can't say I get excited for armies I find as unappealing as Orks and Space Wolves. Necrons, Dark Eldar, Tau, interesting races that I don't collect or know anyone that collects, that makes me enjoy seeing the new releases. But, I'm still a touch too fresh getting back into 40k to be in awe of a new release. I keep finding things five years old that's new to me.

I'm a little confused by the question, to be honest.

I don't get excited that GW are releasing models.

I get excited when GW release good models.

I love it when new stuff comes out. It gives me a constant and unending stream of varied targets. Shooting the same stuff over and over again would just be boring. Unfortunately none of them ever seem to want to just see reason and join the Greater Good. t's not like we didn't warn them. The notification of invasion with the "opt out" option has been clearly posted at the Ethereal Palace on T`au for 2 weeks.

Actually that is a good point. I was talking about codicies but it looks like, when having a glance at the poll, that most people are assuming the OP meant models.

Which having re-read his original thread he did mean models. Silly me.

That wouldn't change the point.

GW don't have a good enough track record at this point to be excited just because they are releasing something.

I totally agree that their track record for game balance is shocking. But I still can't help being enthused enough by a new dex to start building all sorts of lists and in a way, trying to get around their shoddy balancing attempts (if such attempts exist).
