New starter coming soon, which is great as the current starter isn't really a great starter IMHO.

I like the game idea an the guys at Bolt Action, but doesn't the picture seem backwards? Why are the Americans entrenched during a D-Day action?

The breakdown of forces in the no makes sense, I'm just thrown by the art.

So wait, Germans never counter-attacked when fighting against the allies?

Standard German tactical doctrine was to counterattack as soon as possible after an enemy attack. Happened allot in Normandy and the Germans where bled white by it.

I wish they had'd gone for something a bit different this time, D-day's a bit over done.

It's 70 years ago this year, plus D-Day is more or less the go-to event for the casuals I suppose.

Law of WW2 historical game art: all depictions must feature several Germans being gunned down, at least one falling backwards with his helmet falling off, and at least one German officer waving his fist or pointing in an arrogant manner.

Look through the FoW art and try and play 'spot the dead Allied soldier', and the game will be over quickly. The only exception to this is Russians, who it is acceptable to show corpses of in situations where German troopers are not available.

Actually, the Flames of War Open Fire box features a paratrooper front and centre being gunned down, quite prominent actually, reaaaaaally hard to miss.

Part of me does like the campy box art though, it conjures up images of the old Airfix and Matchbox sets of soldiers of days gone by.

Don't get me wrong, I like them for the same reason! Both Battlefront and Warlord have got some great artists working with them, and it's nice to see new work constantly being produced for their publications.

Wayland Games now has this set out for pre-order, a very reasonable £56.00. Not specifically excluded from their free shipping offer either which is good.

The artist working for Warlord has done loads of work for Osprey, so that's in good hands at the very least.

Well, that's news to me, cheers!

And I'm disappointed by the pin markers, I was expecting something a bit different.

Overall it looks like a pretty good set, I just can't get over using 28mm models instead of 1/72, lol. You can get a couple of 1/72 tanks and 50-100 infantry for 24 pounds, lol.

This is more a platoon level thing, as opposed to flames of war and its what is it, company level crap? But you can easily turn the distances used by BA from inches into centimetres and use the old Airfix and Matchbox boxes.

I haven't got any BA figures yet but I didn't think 1/72 was that much smaller. They usually weigh in at about 22-25mm compared to ~30mm for your standard "28mm heroic" which is what I thought BA was. I know BA uses some 1/56 vehicles, so going down to 1/72, so that's only about 3 quarters the size (78% ideally) of the vehicles.

So everything should only be 25-30% larger in the BA figures. I'd keep the distances in inches rather than centimeters, as that's a 250% difference.

I actually read a post on the BA forums where Rick Priestly said he feels the game works fine at 1/72, it was only 15mm (which is closer to 1/144) that things start to get too small.

The text says 8 order dice total; that pic shows 10 order dice. Anyone know which is correct?

Good catch. It looks like on pre-release info they say 8, but now on the preorder page they're saying 10:

Not a bad idea, seeing as you'll want to buy some expansion units sooner or later and use them as soon as possible without having to buy two extra blisters of order dice.

I will admit the order dice is what put me off starting BA. Not the only thing obviously But when I was looking at picking up a couple of armies and the rulebook to try some games with my mates the fact I had to pay $40AUD more just to get the order dice hit me as I hadn't noticed that cost before, lol.

I know I could just use regular dice and note down which side = what order, but given no one around here plays it and I was having to buy 2 armies to try and get mates to try it... it sort of put me off, lol.
