While not a warhammer item, I believe that it is also an interesting build for cosplay.
The next build was decided by my grandson, who liked my Colt M-1911 Auto. This version is designed by rocketmantan, over at Deviant art. http://www.deviantart.com/art/Halo-M6D-Pistol-Papercraft-Replica-395628443 His model is very basic and if built as is, it will not stand up to constant handling. I built it up with heavy lamination and added more items to make it a little more realistic. The gun at this posting is finished and the next item to build, will be the magazine, bullets and some kind of display. here is a teaser as to where it is at and I will start the build thread soon

Captain Killhammer McFighterson stared down at the surface of Earth from his high vantage point on the bridge of Starship Facemelter. Something ominous was looming on the surface. He could see a great shadow looming just underneath the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, slowly spreading northward. "That can't be good..." he muttered to himself while rubbing the super manly stubble on his chin with one hand. "But... on the other hand..." he looked at his shiny new bionic murder-arm. "This could be the perfect chance for that promotion." A perfect roundhouse kick slammed the ship's throttle into full gear. Soon orange jets of superheated plasma were visible from the space-windshield as Facemelter reentered the atmosphere at breakneck speed. |

Of all my grandsons, I have only one that is interested in handicrafts. He tries hard to build but is still not yet capable but I do play Warhammer with him. thanks for your comment and looking in.
When I mentioned the Colt M-1911, it is paper model not the real item, even though I do own one. here is a photo of the M-1911.

thanks to you too for looking in and for your comments.
To all who look in to this thread, keep in mind that this model is free and do not go to ALICE and pay for it. It is freely given to the community by rocketmantan http://rocketmantan.deviantart.com/
So here is the first installment on the build thread. The beginning does not look like much but the changes to the model are apparent. I wanted this model to be able to withstand kid power. enjoy and see you all soon with more.

Thanks for looking in, For more purist, It should have been done in plastic card and resin, but it works out okay with paper too.
monkeytroll wrote:Always interesting to see your builds. Wasn't expecting papercraft prop weapons for sure
I was not planning on it either, but my grandson took a look at my M1911 Colt automatic paper model and kind of bugged me for a HALO gun, since he is into it. One thing about the M-1911, in some countries, making and displaying it may be against the law.
Deathwinger wrote:Impressive!
Thanks for the comment and for looking in. There is more to come. The gun is finished and I have to work on editing the photos before uploading them.
Here is another batch. As you can make out from the template/plans/diagrams. the upper and lower receivers have been cut apart and made into two separate build sections. That nose muzzle has a slight curve to it and the inside support had a notch cut into the bend before the skin was added. If this is not done, the muzzle nose will have a hard time staying in place. Enjoy and see you all soon with more. One item I did not circle in the photos, is that I cut away a section of the upper receiver to accommodate the Muzzle cover.
The gun is finished and my grandson wants it now, but I will make a stand for it for those of you who may want to display it.

A sanding wheel on the Dremel? I'm guessing the very fine one? Don't you worry about "fuzzing" the edges?

Yes, the chip board does not take kindly to being sanded and when painted, it has a tendency to fuzz but there is a trick to cut the fuzz down, which I will cover later when I get to the painting section.

There are some items that will not be done with this model, my grandson is impatient and keeps asking if it is done, "is it done, Is it done.....Is it done" Some items that I want to make for it were the complete bolt with firing pin, a spring loaded cocking action, and a working safety latch to release the upper receiver to lock and load. The front site also can fit a small laser flashlight that can be found at the dollar store.
Here is the next batch of photos, this time on the cocking handle for the upper receiver.

Just the fact that you even wanted to do this with a papercraft model makes me love you that little bit more....
Fascinating stuff as always.

Thanks for looking in, and yes it is possible to make it a non firing functional gun. I will not do it for this one since I have gone past the working parts stage, even though the slide mechanism can still be done.
And the build thread continues with more updates. As mentioned earlier, the chip board does not lend itself to be a smooth finish if it is sanded. To avoid the rough fuzzy edge, with the first paint, in this case primer, I smooth the edges with a round object, in this case, the stem of the paint brush. With the following paint job, I repeat the process, this keeps the fuzz down and gives a smoother finish. One of the hardest part of paper modeling, is to achieve a round edge that follows a contour. With this method, it is achieved. Enjoy and see you soon with more photo updates.

Ah, so that's your trick to beat the fuzzies.I just prime with a coat of latex acrylic and then, using a razor blade (like for scrapers, the single edge kind) slice/shave the fuzzies after the paint has dried. Then re-prime.
I'll have to try your way.
Good progress.

No. I force the fuzzys down with the round object like a dowel, or a paintbrush stem and rub it down while the primer is still slightly dry. The primer itself is like a sealant glue and holds the fuzzys down, When the final finish coat is done, I rub it down gently so as not to rub the paint off. By forcing the fuzz back onto itself it allows for a contour shape to be formed.

The build thread continues and the paint job is initiated to move the model from a paper look to a resin or other material loo. The small details are spruced up and the gun is getting more realistic prop look.

The display stand begins. I used a generic vcr box as the base for the project. I had two options for the logos. The first one met with disaster and I opted for the second one, which will be in the next posting. This version would have looked good but the paper stuck to the paint and ripped the wings and some of the paint off. I had to re-cover the top and go to option 2.

And so another build thread is ended, the next postings will be on the finished model. The originator, Rocketmantan, is on a hiatus at the merchant marine academy and I assume he will have little time to check on his works. I wish to thank him for the design. It is very basic but it screamed to be detailed and I attempted to do just that. I enjoyed doing this build and my grandson is very well pleased with it. I made it sturdy enough that hopefully it will last a while. I may have to do one for myself but there are too many models out there crying to be built. I am still unsure as to the next project, I was considering a Space Marine bolter, but is a big project in size. The mini one is ok but I would like to do a 1/1 scale. Then there is the dropship that I left off and have not finished and of course the Viper build appreciation thread. Well I hope that you have all enjoyed the build thread as much as I did in building it. Whatever comes next, see you all soon with more to come.

The mettalic cardstock is ok for the sides of the display stand, but for the bullets, it is too thick and if you roll it, it will tend to wrinkle on you, so I had to peel off some of the layers to make it regular paper thin to wrap around the dowel. As for page 074, it was deleted because it came out blurry. If you see a missing number, this is the reason why I would not post it, blurry, too dark, too light, I did not like the way it came out. Thanks for looking in and for your comment.
