Hi
I have some space marine models which are painted raven guard livery.
I want to strip the paint off and repaint them as space wolves.
Any suggestions on what to use? They are plastic vehicles if it makes any difference.
Thanks.

The search function is full of hundreds of suggestions. In the UK, many people recommend Dettol. I use SuperClean on metal, resin and plastic and it works a treat.

Thanks guys Do I need to soak the models in Dettol or whatever or do I just scrub at them with it? Any thoughts on what works best?

Soak in FPS for 24mins(ish) and don't worry about water too much.
Maybe get yourself a cheap toothbrush too.

I'll second SuperClean. I tried several other suggestions but SuperClean was kind of miraculous.

Superclean thirded - it's fantastic. Run your models under warm tapwater and scrub away any remaining paint with a toothbrush and you'll be all set.

If you want to strip the models, probably start with the helmets, then the boots...

I use acetone free nail varnish remover. Takes about 5 min soak then toothbrush it off. I've left models in it for days and no problems. I did an old finecast and it was fine. Not tried metals

If they're painted as Raven Guard, I wouldn't bother stripping them unless the existing paint is nasty. Just use the current paint as an undercoat and go from there.
That's assuming you are intending to use a black undercoat, I suppose... It's my default, so I tend to take it for granted

While already a few decent answers on this post - PLEASE use the search - you will get literally hundreds of suggestions and actual experiences on this.
This is asked monthly (or more often perhaps).
What ever you use, test it first for any allergic reactions you might have and always keep chemicals away from kids and pets.
best of luck.

Although answered before, many times, Fairy Powerspray is available in most supermarkets, £3.50 a bottle.
spray on model, leave for no more than 4.2 minutes - more than this is just wasting time, it won't damage your models - and scrub off with an old toothbrush, or better still, an old head on an electric toothbrush.
Rinse the model, wash your hands. Dry both and re-undercoat the model. Paint the model.
Realise you could do better, repeat the above process.
No worries about gunk if you get water near it as with Dettol, no nasty smells as they even do lemon FPS now, not that the original smelled.
Never had FPS damage a model, be it metal, plastic, resin or Vinyl, but it even took the paint off my garage door, so take care.
The only paint I've found that it won't tackle is Alclad Gloss Black Base - used as an undercoat for their metallic range. If that's what you're trying to strip, don't leave it on, it'll take off the metal colour, but then if you leave it, the FPS seems to almost crystallise and that just makes it harder to get a smooth surface to start again.

Now if anyone could tell me the name of a product that is available in Germany for less than outrageous prices I'd be a happy painter..
Neither Simple Green nor Dettol nor the famed FPS are available here for less than 13€/bottle plus shipping...
Been looking, but didn't find anything and I'm nearing the end of my Simple Green again..

And for all of us in the UK that were happily using Powerspray, hold on to what you have! Fairy have just changed the formulation and the new one is nowhere near as effective. If you have the old bottle with a label with a circular red flash on it, you have probably got the old formula. The new one removes this red flash from the label so it is mostly a green label with a small yellow flash with the words Fresh Citrus - don't buy this version, it doesn't work nearly as well and it'll cost you a lot of money to strip anything.
The new formula doesn't keep the foam as long and turns to a liquid very fast. If you have a container just larger than your model, you might just get away with it, but you might as well decant from the bottle without using the trigger spray - and it still leaves flakes of paint which you will have to get off with a knife.
Very disappointed that they have done this.
