I saw this post over on Robin Williams memorial thread

1-800-273-8255 is a suicide prevention hotline. Do not be afraid or feel ashamed if you think you need to use it.
(Disclaimer: at least in the US it is... not sure of the equivalent from other places)
And thought it was a good idea. I propose a list of suicide prevention hotline numbers for as many countries as we can get to be made into a sticky post, likely in the OT forum. I think if evem 1 person is saved by such a thread its worth it. Would this be possible?

You know.. it might not be a bad idea... I don't know about other folk but I know personally I've had to use the number a couple times...
Not saying I speak for other 35 year old divorced guys who still play toy soldiers and live (hide) in shoddy apartments... but maybe Deadshot has an interesting idea.
Because I mean lets be honest... not all of Nerd-dom is exactly Big Bang Theory or Heroes of Cosplay or cool panels at ComicCon... for some it can be a confusing world/thing/something... and having some outlet we can go to when we feel the normal channels might not work might be a good idea.

While I was never exactly suicidal, I was bullied a lot as a kid (seeing as I was the only fat kid in school) and just talking with someone about it would have definitely helped a lot.

This kind of thread suggested, while laudable in intent - as a sticky, is not really within the scope of a wargaming forum.

I concur. To me, this just seems like an overreaction to a dead celebrity. While depression certainly is a big problem that needs to be adressed, a tabletop gaming forum surely ain't the right place to do so.

Is there any harm in doing so? Such a sticky would either be useful for someone who didn't know otherwise, or never used. Both are good outcomes.

As someone who's overcome it, it sounds like a nice idea. But, what about a "how are you" thread instead or something like that to start with? The help numbers and such can be edited into the OP.

A "how are you" thread sounds good in theory.
We have two separate "good day/bad day" thread in the DCM subforum that pretty much accomplish the same thing. They get kind of spammy at times, but they work pretty good.
But I honestly think that a similar thing in the OT would be locked in a day because people want to be edgy and talk crap.

I have a similar concern, that some mischievous posters would see it as troll bait

Quite.
That -- and similar/related experiences -- is why we don't generally have or allow threads like that in the OT board.
Similarly whilst we want all dakkaknauts, and indeed people in general everywhere, to be healthy and hearty and safe we are, at days' end, a website about wargaming/related geekery.
Realistically there's much better sites/places where one can deal with any such issues, if only as one is more likely to receive better advice.
So I hope you can see why we're probably not going to put a sticky in the OT board (or elsewhere) relating to suicide or depression or alcoholism or any other affliction that people might suffer from.
That said if users are so inclined they're free to put phone numbers or links etc -- if appropriate.. be smart folks -- in their sigs.
Of course moving forwards this policy might change as/when/if.
I hope covers things.
The MOD team can always be Pm'ed if you have an idea or wish to discuss the issue further.
You all stay safe now !
