I need to figure out the decals and markings I will use on these, but I am pleased with the airbrush work. I need one more Stormtalon and my air wing will be finished.

Extended hull Storm Raven:

Used the chapter house extension kit on this. Kit is terrible quality and cheap, but the finished effect is pretty cool!

Storm Talon:

Love this little model. After assembly, I realized why it has only 2 hull points!

Looks really good. Love the canopy glare effect.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

That Chapterhouse mod kit makes the Storm Raven look SOOOOOOOO much better. Though, I'll admit, when I clicked on the thread, I thought for a moment that Chapterhouse had released a mod to elongate the tail on the Storm Talon, too.

Had a hard time fitting the components together? I'm thinking about getting one... But I've heard horrorstories in terms of gaps.

There were pretty serious gaps, mold lines and flash weren't terrible, but the parts are insanely thin and poor quality. They were very bent and looked really cheap. I would NEVER use the stand slot on the extension kit since just trying to put the stand in the makes the entire bottom bow and bend inward. It is too wide for the engines, requiring a ridiculous amount of shaving and filing.

I would not buy it again. I would spring for the StormEagle kit from Forge World. It is another $50 and you can't benefit from the reduced cost of online retailers for the Stormraven itself, but it is higher quality and looks even better.

That looks really awesome.

Appreciate the honest assessment of the kit, too.

I have the same kit. It is really thin and lots of gaps. It took a good effort to file/sand down parts to fit properly. I went and made "support" beams on the inside corners and cross sections to help give it strength. The kit looks cool when its done, but it is a process(well it was for me)

Good looking Storm raven! I really dig the execution, particularly the removal of the turret, and the color scheme! Although i am not to thrilled about the dorsal fin intake, it looks a bit out of place with the turret gone... but it still works.

I notice your weapon configuration is a bit off from the codex... did the chapterhouse kit come with a different mounting option for the hurricane bolters that isnt visible in the pics, or are you not going to include them?

Also, what was your inspiration for the additional twin lascannon?

I dislike that dorsal intake too. With the turret removed, it ends up looking a bit odd. Not sure if there is much that can be done to break it up though. In hindsight, I may have tried a different look. The issue is the plain panels that are normally masked by the turret.

I went with the alternate config so that I could use this as a Stormeagle if I wanted too. Generally not a great idea since it ends up being 100 points more without really making up for that with effectiveness!

If I may ask, are the backwards tailwings on both models intentional?

I see this a lot with the stormraven/talon and it seems to be accidental because people automatically go to swept wings for models (and I've done it myself a few times but corrected it).

Ha, no!

But now that you mention it, the flaps are pointing in the wrong direction!

Looks like I will be doing a little ripping and tearing tonight!

I prefer the swept look, but the flaps will be impossible to ignore. I cannot unsee them!

I made the exact same error on my stormchicken.

I just left it as it is. I like that profile slightly more.

Yeah the chapter house extension isn't great quality but it does look nice. I had lots of gaps in mine and really flimsy spots. I made a thread about it around a year ago. My stormraven siloutte turned out nice also just as yours did. Mine has been converted is all. Looks great!

You know, I guess that really is what matters. As poor quality as they are, when done right and properly painted, it makes the model look fantastic.

Exactly the end result matters most lol. Check out mine if you like. Search filii leonis or Kal-El in this forum. EVERYTHING people have said about this kit I experienced. Here is my thread bit-chin about the problems. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/525764.page

Nice work!

I bought the Chapterhouse Stormraven kit, can't say that I like it one bit... It's going to take a bit of work if I even try using it. I guess I thought it would a perfect fit, but there are so many gaps, the panels are warped just not for me to take a nice looking model then put something on it that takes away from the kit.

It's worth the headache if you can get it done as the end result looks great.

I bought three of them in one go.

I regretted it immediately upon opening the packaging.

Every single kit was warped beyond comprehension, and no amount of modelling wizardry resulted in a useable outcome. Total waste of money.

Looks amazing in photos though, so kudos to you PhillyT for getting it to work

i just built two chapterhouse ravens. I'm quite happy. the gaps really weren't that bad.

I fully agree that the quality of the casts are bad, but the main side pieces are thick enough that they hold up well. The top and bottom are pretty thin but with a thin piece of plasticard or some green stuff and you can easily fill the gaps.

What they add to the model is more than worth it. The storm eagle is nice but I think it's too different to use as a ravon in my opinion.

That said, I'd love to have chapterhouse ravens, storm eagles and fire raptors all on the same board. through in a few storm talons and maybe one thunderhawk and now you've got an awesome afternoon.

imagine how fun a flyer battle would be on a huge table painted to look like the sky. maybe use the dog fighting rules?

Pro Tip; keep a hair dryer close so you can heat and bend the parts back to the way they need to be aha
