To my extreme pleasure, Amazon just squarely clocked Google in the jaw by buying up streaming site Twitch right out from under them to the tune of nearly $1,000,000,000.

As QZ noted, while 'only' 15 million people watched the 2013 World Series, some 32 million watched the Season 3 League of Legends Championship.

Good. Competition in this arena is good, and Google is... not so good when it comes to their "hands off, don't care" attitude towards YouTube.

I guess games sales on amazon will go up after all those link spams during live play.

They're both extreme asshats. Neither is good. And as said, ads ads ads.

Haven't used twitch in a while tbh though.

Twitch already sold out, as far as I can tell. At least Youtube's content identification system isn't quite so insanely moronic as the one Twitch introduced recently.

lol what? They aren't even filtering live streams, just VOD's. You can still play whatever music you want while streaming if you don't care about your VOD's. How is that worse then having your entire account removed if 3 people point a finger at you.

I use Twitch exclusively for League of Legends LCS VODs. Yeah, I'm a nerd like that. As long as this doesn't affect me, I'm fine with it.

Though I do wish it hadn't been sold on general principle. Amazon's scum. Google's worse scum, sure, but Amazon's still scum.

I don't get the hate for Amazon. We never had a single problem with them in oh-so-many years. Got 1 or 2 failed deliveries, which weren't Amazon's fault, and we got replacements send the next day.

But no. My issue is that when Google and Amazon buy a website, its not uncommon for the site to quickly go to crap. Google is worse than Amazon though, what with their random wtf why would you change that changes to Youtube that periodically take place every twelve months, usually with the side effect of making Youtube worse. I remember when Youtube was ad free and didn't have a brain dead policy towards IP claims Then Google happened.

I can understand the Google hate - we went in a lawsuit against them and it was HORRENDOUS. We won, though. But...goddamn.

Never had any problem with Amazon, though. Awesome deliveries, Amazon Prime is cheap and efficient, free movies / series for Primes.

The list;

They treat their employees like gak (and fire them if they even say the word union, allegedly). They have Google's stupid IP claims policy (though you hear about it less, but a good example is the Spot the Space Marine Incident). And to add to that, Amazon is also one of the leading places on the internet right now for the distribution of child porn via their self publishing service, something that they've been less zealous about than Google (hey even Google can do some things okayish). And you know how people complain about big business destroying small business? Amazon goes a step further and rapes small business. Small business' selling on Amazon get gouged out the wazo.

The most egregious for me is the Hachette Attack (As I call it anyway). They've been really dirty in the E-books and Self Publishing wars. Mind you, I agree, E-books should be cheaper, but Amazon uses the "we sell for less" line to justify "we pay you less" which is what the Hachette authors and Hachette itself were really upset about. And authors especially don't make much from book sales to begin with.

The only adds I don't skip on Youtube are the movie trailer ones that look good. That's mostly how I hear about movies these days. (We don't have TV)

Also, if you hate ads that much you could you know... pay them to remove all ads? Turbo account = AD FREE. Or just subbing to things you tend to watch, whichever you prefer.
