OK, so I have a potential 1750 game coming up and was toying with the idea of trying to field a whole SM battle company, staying true to the company org, but the point squeeze means it a bit of a basic fit out to say the least...

Think I would probably go IF Chap Tacs to make the most of the wall of bolters, but I was mainly wondering whether the shear weight of numbers would make this list competitive or would it just result in me being handed my ass (and a lot of models to put away) every turn?

This is awesome. I'm not sure how it would play, honestly, as I've never seen a space marine zerg rush of this kind. If you're playing maelstrom, you might honestly have a chance of just stampeding your way to victory.

Why the extra librarian? Scrap him and take meltabombs off something - use that to get you some droppods! Really, a couple of pods would go a long way to making this a little more playable. If you're willing to bend on your theme a bit, you could say that the devastator squads are a little "under strength." Cut 70 points from each of them, and suddenly you have enough points to have all your tactical marines rain from the sky.

You're absolutely right, for some reason I thought I would need 2 detachments to field this, but it all comes under one!

I think if I was going to do this I would probably stick as close to the fluff as possible, to the point where it should probably be a captain in their rather than a libby. So, with that in mind...

Captain deepstrikes with assault squad to take out a big gun (or fried trying), while the other three hang back in reserve to grab objectives late in the game, while the rest of the grunts footslog it up the pitch having the holy warp beaten out of them. Also mix some combi-meltas into the tac combat squads for a bit of diversity, and trade an MM for an ML in the devs for a bit of variety.

With combat squads, this would give me a whopping 18 obsec units around the park, assuming the devs just sit back and try to duke it out with whatever big nasty's are chewing thru grunts from range.

This is also a great idea - a whole steel rain company!!! If only I had six droppod models

Still, if I did, something like this would be rather nice...

The first three tac units drop in first turn, and combat squaded so the melta/multimelta are in the same 5 man team. Combine this with one dude lobbing a krak grenade and its almost a poor mans alpha strike unit, as long as it doesn't scatter too far from intended target.....

If you end up playing this list, you should do a batrep. I'd be very interested to see how it came out. Part of me worries that you'll just get slaughtered, but another part looks at all that power armor and hopes.

If you are doing a company list, keep it pure and only use a Captain and/or Chaplain for your HQs.

Most of your AV fire is going to be from your Devs, you should gear them as such.

I might drop some of the melta bombs. Points are precious trying to get this many bodies on the table. I might also drop some of the combis to get more real guns on the table.

Getting a company on the table at this point level is going to be rough. Too many corners need to be cut to get the bodies on the field. But It could be a lot of fun.

Love the idea, confused by the execution.

The dev's seem to be a bit bloated with strange weapons. i would swap out the Multi melta (and probably the heavy bolters, since you have no shortage of regular bolters) for missiles, but i can also see the merit in plas/las cannons since 2+ saves are gonna be an issue for this list.

It would be really useful to add a drop pod or two for the tac squads, if for no reason other than forcing your opponent to make some difficult target prioritization while your marines slog it across the field. Even better if you throw a melta instead of a flamer in the tac squad along with the sarge's combi-melta, so they can drop in and take out some armor.

if you are interested in deep striking a couple of suicide combat-squaded assault marines, i would keep the captain with the main force in a full 10 man assault squad. He is too valuable to be throwing away with a small squad deep into the enemies territory. (this would also benefit from having the drop pods)


Its a very cool list, and id love to play against it. You are hamstringing yourself by trying to force the company aspect, but i think a little weapon optimization would help counter that.
