I was just thinking, what if we had Warhammer fantasy's charge reactions in 40k, as the title suggests.

stand and shoot: overwatch
flee: run Xd6, if attacker rolls higher, you get over run and locked into combat with no attacks that turn, if defender rolls higher run that many inches away.
regular: regular accepting of combat

I feel like, the stand and shoot won't really change much, but the flee response would change a lot for the better, in my opinion,

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Maybe if Overwatch was also a -2 Initiative modifier. To simulate the firing instead of preparing to attack in close combat.

That being said, it's an unneeded complication and as much much fun as it MIGHT be, I won't miss it if it's not there. Cool if it shows up, don't care enough to legitimately want it. Since I find myself avoiding Assault now like the plague... And not in a fun Papa Nurgle way.

Last thing 40k needs right now is to make it harder to get into melee.

Personally I love charge reactions but they need to be part of a well-considered series of changes, end even so, running away should leave the unit broken or pinned at the very least.

The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins.

Ooh, a negative to Initiative if you fire overwatch, I like that! I think that would be pretty boss. Most armies it wouldn't hit too hard, as the ones where overwatch really hurts are probably going after you anyway, but many armies would be forced into some tactical decisions. Even if it was just a -1 to initiative, sometimes that can make a huge difference.

negative 1 initiative seems more appropriate. Because most of the time, you're going against I3/4 so you would take those penalized rolls at the same time as if it were -2 Initiative. I really like this. Kind of like a reverse version of the old furious charge rules where it gave you +1 initiative on the charge. Honestly, anything that would make going all assault fun.

I went to Hershey Park in central PA this year, and I have to say I was more than a little disappointed. I fully expected the entire theme park to be make entirely of chocolate, but no. Here in America, we have "building codes," and some other nonsense about chocolate melting if don't store it someplace kept below room temperature.

*sigh*

Here's my issue: If I want to play Warhammer Fantasy Battles, I'll go play Warhammer Fantasy Battles. I don't want to play Warhammer Fantasy Battles, thus I do not play Warhammer Fantasy Battles. I REALLY don't want to play Warhammer Fantasy Battles with 40k models and names.

I don't see how it would make it a clone of WHFB, i mean, the current psychic phase is doing a good job of that. But i just find it weird that overwatching wouldn't hurt your initiative, and that a unit that is not good at CC wouldn't run from people trying to run them down.

If the games used a more interactive game turn, there would be no need for 'charge reaction type', extra rules.

But who wants clear concise rules that deliver straight forward and engaging game play?

Oh yeah, all the players that actually want to play a game of 40k without all the hassle of having to agree to how to fix/interpret the rules first.
