Yeah she posed nude for some professional photographer and sold them behind a paywall where people could buy them as they wished, they got discovered and people are putting them out all over the internet.

Oh. Well then, I guess it is mostly immature then. And illegal if those were supposed to be only accessible for people who paid.

They also sent death and rape threats and the like. Sadly, it's not really uncommon for women who speak on feminist issues to get death and rape threats. I know I personally have, at least.

You can get rape and death threats just for admitting you like Call of Duty, it's the internet.

Making excuses for this kind of behavior is, itself, inexcusable. Furthermore, the idiots who bash people for liking Call of Duty rarely go fetch your address and take pictures of your home and send you long-winded emails detailing how they're going to rape you and kill your family. Examples like that, however, are sadly not very rare when it comes to the harassment that feminist activists can receive.

Though there's plenty of males who have been stalked/emailed over time, some as a joke even, alongside others of course.

That's still kind of making excuses though. Because you're trivializing it, when we should be criminalizing it. Sadly, police rarely act on that kind of threat. I know in my case, they just said "keep records, that way if they kill you, we'll know who to arrest."

The problem is at the same time, the issue with tracking down so many people, finding them, making sure the court case can actually stick, making sure your jurisdiction can handle it, and the anonymity of the internet.
And when they do track some of these people down, they don't do it for actual threats so much as like what they did with that league player because of an overzealous judge.

I'm aware of that problem. Still means we shouldn't trivialize it by saying "oh, well that happens to everyone", with the apparent subtext that says "therefor it's not a big deal".

I dont want my money to be spent on hushing internet trolls that could be anywhere, any age, and person just because its unpleasant.
If you dont want that kind of backlash, dont subject yourself to it. Or harden up.
I dont think its good, but I also dont think its that big of an issue. Especially given the costs involved on what probably amounts to some bratty child having a laugh.
I would like to know how often any death threats on the internet are carried out. If its an alarming number (I.E more than a few isolated cases) then maybe, but there are far more important things to be concerned about.
My fiancee has no issues at all on the net, I have no issues on the net and at the end of the day, its simply the internet. There will always be those few that ruin it for the many in any group or anything.
Taking down trolls, is a complete waste of time.

Yes, because someone getting death threats that include references to their address and other such personal details is "not that big an issue", but apparently, a woman having an opinion on sexism in video games is worth three rambling threads of controversy, each
That's really freaking messed up.

What can you do about it? Nothing really. There is 0 things that can be done. There are many things that have pages of rambling controversy. It always does, and always will happen. Wither by envelope letters or seminars in the 1800s, or radio shows of the 50s, or internet forums of today. The only difference is the topics change as time goes by. You will die, and these will still exist. Its not messed up, its how things are and always will be. If they didnt want controversy they shouldnt shag around, beg for more money or fuel the fire. Very few people will remember these women in the coming decades. Its not a big deal at the end of the day.

Raise awareness so people understand the problem better, and how they personally can deal with it if it happens to them.
Change laws to make the situation easier to deal with to begin with.
Give better training and resources to local law enforcement, so that they can/are willing to better deal with these situations than they currently do.
Encourage parents to raise children better so they don't become screaming ass-hats as adults every time they step on the internet.
I could go on, but you get the idea. Defeatism isn't my schtick.

To be fair, a male with any media status receives the same treatment if he supports feminism. (not trivializing btw, just saying it's not gender specific)

In the sense of equality-favouring masculinism, not misogynistic masculinism.

I think it is still called feminism. Like, for instance, asking for equal opportunity maternity/paternity leave, or arguing against the social stigma of being a househusband. Because feminism, despite the name, is understood as fighting gender inequalities and discrimination, not just one side of them. Especially when it is pretty hard to say what is a “bad” discrimination and what is a “good” discrimination anyway… Automatically Appended Next Post: Soladrin wrote:To be fair, a male with any media status receives the same treatment if he supports feminism.
I guess I am either lucky or not outspoken enough, then.

Are you a media personality? Because I'm pretty sure you are not.
My point is people like TB, Jim Sterling and other of such internet fame regularly get death threats when they speak on such a topic.
