The dark behind the eyes.

Basically the title. I'm curious to know how many characters people use in their armies, and how much they spend on them (in terms of points).

Also, any thoughts about character spending in general? Is investing in characters worthwhile (in the armies you play), or are the points better spent elsewhere?

If you are talking in terms of money, most characters fall under the £20 mark due to me converting most of mine out of plastic SM commanders and spare bits, or just buying the required kit.

If talking in terms of points, the average is 200 for SM, including SCs. My Nids are usually just my Hive Tyrant (going on 400pts in the 5th Ed book) and the Swarmlord. My Chaos is around 150-200. My GK is either Draigo or a Librarian but usually Draigo, with the Libby coming in at 250ish.

Sergeants in my SM are usually just base cost, maybe a melta-bomb. Chaos army only has the DV set, a Raptor Squad with Power Weapon and Plasma Pistol, and a Warp Talon squad (base cost). My GK Justicars have all the gubbinz.

Chapter Master is normally 270 - 275pts
Various Librarians, ranging from 115pts - 140pts.

With what and how I play, the price is worth it.

I find them hit or miss. Some I will get specifically for what they do like Coatez and Harker before they took away his stealth.
i think the key though is everything in moderation. Too much and you wont have nuff points left to get an army to support them.

With orks in a 1500 point game I tend to be around 250... The characters are cheap but extremely useful in the army

I usually try to spend fifth of my points max in my HQ.

500 points - minimum HQ, lvl 1 Libby mainly which is 100 points
1000 points - I may spend 200 points at most, which is usually some regular HQ with basic uprgades (the Librarian now has Jump Pack and ML2). Maybe even Reclusiarch or Captain if I'm really having a wild day.
1500 -> Mephiston, mah man! Dante in fluffy lists.

Depends on my army of choice for the game at hand

SW : around 500 for a regular 2500 game
Tyranind : 400ish but depends on the game size and what I face on the field.
Eldar : anywhere from 200 to 500, depends on the game and my foe

For basic HQs, as in a single standard 'human sized' model no matter the army, I won't spend more than 150pts. I put much more use in quantity of the rest of the army than the quality of a single warlord choice and I'd rather spend under 100pts on a Librarian or equivalent Psyker. Tyranids ruin that idea and I won't take LESS than 240pt HQ Tyrants, walking or flying, 240 is the minimum.

Eldar, usually about 200 (2 Farseers).

Tyranids about 250 I think. It's been awhile since I've played my Nids.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Almost every Nid player is spending 500 points on 2 Flyrants for the HQ slot nowadays.

Our codex is pretty linear.

Krieg! What a hole...

About... 400? At 2k, that is.

I usually give the best armor possible for my HQ, so carapace, when available along with melta bomb.

The CCS gets more stuff, weapons for the vets, MoO and bodyguards.

I have 3 HQ at 2k, Quartermaster, CCS and Commissar General, they stick with the artillery, giving a 6+ FNP to every within 6 inches, orders at ld 10, and re-rolls for LD tests for the crewmen.

Cover ignoring Earthshakers are fun.

Depends on the army (and my vision on the army) really.

CSM and Tyranids? Those'll cost me. Between 500-700 Pts
CSM fluff, to me, seems to focus on individual accomplishments and winning the favor of the gods. Likewise, I feel like my HQ's are the champions of my legion.
Tyranids.... well their (good/fun) HQ's really aren't cheap. And really anything apart from my termagants is a high-cost powerhouse.

If I look at my friends who plays IG and Tau, they almost never go above 200-300.

Yikes, I just went through an 8 game tournament at 1500 points and I spent all of 165 points total on my primary and ally hq slots (DE and Eldar). I did a couple games after that with a 150 point special character, but I definitely tend to spend more points getting bodies and vehicles on the ground.

I think my last few DE lists have spent 65pts on HQ.

DE are paper thin and all their HQ's are expensive assaulty paperthin units, you don't want to spend much on their HQ slot most the time tbh lol.

i tend to spend 10 to 20 % on HQ in my games. I like having more units in my games. Having more units in any game helps the HQs survivability by having more targets to shoot at.

I usually spend around 200-300p for HQ character in 1850 point games, SM being cheapest (220) and Orks being most character heavy with 3 HQs (330).

I tend to run most Sergeants without upgrades, Slugga Bosses being an exception (I run them with Bosspole and PK)
