The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

To be fair to it, it did get a lot better towards the end of the series. From the The Winter Soldier tie-in onwards it really picked up in quality,in my opinion. The fact that they look to be including some more of the superpowered characters like The Absorbing Man, and a larger variety of Shield/Hydra agents makes me hopeful for season 2
Yes, the series did get a lot better after Cap 2 came along and kicked it up the ass. Doesn't change the fact that they spent over half a season spinning their wheels. We can't blame them for every aspect of that (it wasn't their call, after all), but the show they did make wasn't particularly compelling.
I have hopes this season will be better, but they have to actually have some momentum and they have to have the story go somewhere. Sadly I think we're in for more "Villain of the Week" shenanigans. I have more faith the Netflixx series - a show designed as a whole universe from the top down in the same way that the MCU films leading to The Avengers were.

As much as it worries me, I do think that we might be getting a Villain of the Week sorta thing, with the villains that have been announced.
That's not to say that they won't be linked in some manner (I reckon there'll be a few that are escapees from The Fridge), but considering the fact that Hydra has been revealed, and that if I recall correctly they've announced the casting for the Hydra agent Kraken, I'm hoping that the villains so far will be united under the Hydra banner.
There's also the possibility that they'll use this series to introduce 'Miracles' ready for Age of Ultron, or to try and slip The Inhumans into the MCU (based on Skye's father and gut instinct).
It got okay as it finished but other shows were strong all the way and shield was not at first. Even filler episodes of arrow were better than most of shield.

I'll be surprised if Absorbing Man isn't more than a one-and-done villain. Shame, as he can be interesting.

And that's the part that worries me. They've got, what, 11 episodes? And they've said that they're doing two stories, one for each half. That's fine; the show could certainly use a little more structure to ensure it gets its story beats right, but if one of those story lines is "rounding up villains from the Fridge", then that's just lazy.

They had better use the second half of the season as a lead-in to Avengers 2, otherwise my fears about this show (not part of the MCU, just skirting around the edges of it) will be realised.
Yes, I actually kind of hope they bring Coulson back into Avengers 2, even if it's just for a Cameo.
Mind you the MCU has gotten complicated since Guardians came out.
Not that I'm complaining about the film, which was great. But once you consider that it's part of the MCU then it does affect the was you perceive the MCU. I mean in a Galaxy dominated by Thanos and where the Nova Empire exists, why exactly is Hydra so important? As threats go most of the stuff Earth just seems to petty and unimportant in comparison.
"And if we've learnt anything over the past 1000 mile retreat it's that Russian agriculture is in dire need of mechanisation!"
Really it's a lot of general "we already know this" information. About as generic as it gets. The last thing this show needs after its first season is another slow burn. They need to hit the ground running.
