The Callidus assassin Polymorphine rule says they can infiltrate anywhere on the table more than 1" from an enemy unit, as opposed to the normal 12"/18" depending upon LoS. The "anywhere on the table" phrase is the key one here.
The Servo Skulls rules say enemy infiltrators can't set up within 12" of one.
Both rules are found in a codex/dataslate and therefore overrule the BRB but my question is which one takes precedence? As it stands they both contradict the other as far as I can see.

Directly conflicting rules are resolved by roling a dice. Dunno if they kept it in 7th, but the 6th ed BRB said so.

acctually in this case, both rules are specific codex rules so you follow the "Can't trumps can" approach.
Servo's shut down assasins.

Why exactly do you follow this approach? Is there any rules basis for it?

Because we are using a permissive rule set.
Servo skulls specifically state you CAN NOT infiltrate within 12" of them.
Unless you have a rule stating you can ignore that restriction, you cant ignore that restriction.

Well the Polymorphine rule says anywhere on the table.

Yes, and what Eihnlazer is saying is that while the assassin CAN, the servo skulls say CANNOT.
Can't trumps can in a permissive rule set.

Where is this described in the BRB? I'd just like to verify what you're saying about can't trumps can is correct.

That is just permissive rules work. It's not in the book because that would be like describing how grammar works.

It doesn't (to my knowledge).
But the game would (somewhat) fall apart otherwise (more than usual, I mean). Here's some examples;
1. If a game has no "Reserves" Mission Rule (this is what allows you to come from reserve), and you bring 1+ Drop Pod; Drop Pods must be held in reserve (or arrive from reserve. Either/or). They cannot be held there, or come in from reserve, if it doesn't exist. Can't would trump must.
2. If you have to charge the closest unit, but can't because you cannot see them or they're out of range, can't would trump must.

Indeed. Polymorphine already allows for exceptions to "anywhere on the table":
~ You cannot deploy within 1" of an enemy, as listed
~ You still could not deploy illegally (for example, in impassible terrain).
If the Polymorphine rule was "may deploy anywhere on the table more than 1" from an enemy", then fine, but instead, it's a rule which modifies the Infiltrate universal special rule - which is subject to the servoskull restriction.

I can see the point you're trying to make, but I've lost count of the number of threads on YMDC that have degenerated into arguing how grammar works.
I still don't think it's conclusive in this instance that infiltrating a Callidus within 12" of a skull isn't legal. Automatically Appended Next Post: locarno24 wrote:Indeed. Polymorphine already allows for exceptions to "anywhere on the table":

This is a much better explanation. I'm beginning to see how the servo skull might resrict a callidus infiltration.

Very well stated. I was gonna say something similar to this but you got it right on the nose.

Polymorphine grants permission to break the 12/18 inch rule. Show where it grants permission to break the servo skull rule and you will be able to set up.
