Just a question, really.
It had me thinking when I see all of these "I have this many of this"
When you say "I have Xpts of this army" do you count them as bare-bones*, with the upgrades you give them for your list, or something else?

*with what they are modelled with, I.e a Chapter Master is on a bike with a LC and Storm Bolter, so you just count that, not adding things that don't need to be modelled (Melta, Artificer)

If I sound like I'm being a condescending butthole, I'm not. Read my reply as neutrally as possible, please and thank you.

Well, I guess I would count what I most likely run them as, sorta. Like, my Captain is modelled in a way that he can vary anywhere from 110 (Storm Bolter and Power Sword) to 140 (Relic Blade, Storm Bolter, Artificer Armor). I guess he could even go up to 145 if I would include a Melta Bomb, but I actually own some of those, so I could actually model him as such.

No it's the total cost of the unit upgrades included, nobody will ever be referring to anything but the total cost. Generally if no upgrades are mentioned it means bare bones, or at least with all usual upgrades.

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

I'm talking about a general discussion of "Oh, I have X points of this", not an army list (just in case you thought I meant when talking about army lists)

This. With or without upgrades, your list will fluctuate wildly. It's far more reasonable to base it on your typical or favoured loadouts and then add them all up to get a total.

Personally I play everything WYSIWYG, so if i say i have x points of y that's how i run it, as well as how its modeled. Since i dont have the option for Artificer Armor i guess its easier, and if i take Melta Bombs, theyre modeled somewhere on the guy. Could just be personal flavor but in my experience thats how others do it that ive played with.

Collection point counts generaly refer to a sort of midground between stripped to the modelled upgrades and totally pimped out.

For me, my army size reflects the largest reasonably effective force I can bring to bear without loading on wasteful upgrades. It also reflects the way I'd play units, even in a spendy apocolypse game.

Of course, I'm realizing that I haven't updated my IG army roster for the new book, so who knows what I really have.

I see I miss understood the question. I kinda just rough it out based on sensible upgrades, sure Hive Tyrants base price is 160 but in reality its always going to be 230 pts of winged Devoureness minimum

Rough guess.
The armies in my sig go up when I buy new models, with vague increases.
Especially when I magnetise everything. I have a dozen SM bodies, and a range of kit they can carry. They could be Command, heavy weapons, jump-pack assault, or just a Tactical with a bolter.

At worst, very rough guess.

Even as a WYSWYG player there is a bit of wiggle room. I’ve got a shelf of extra marines to swap around, and magnets here and there, spare dread arms, etc. When I list a point value of my collection, It’s mostly an as I would field it total. The cost of artificer armor is included in my captain, but most sergeants are not veterans and don’t have melta bombs.

I suspect it is going to be different depending on the person though. I could see a new player using his stretch value “I can field 1,000 points (barely)” But any point value is going to be an approximation anyway.

I do all my army lists in an excel spreadsheet, and the first tab is a list of all my models with a total points tally (which I round off to the nearest 500)
They're listed WYSIWYG for the most part, but some units like my Thunderlord are listed with Runic Armour because that's how I *always* take him

Vehicles and such are listed with the modelled guns (or most common guns if it's magnetised)

It should also be noted that I have way too many options in some FOC slots to realistically take them all in the same army
(e.g. 10 HQ models)

- 10,000+ (since 1994)
- 5000 (since 1996)
Harlequins/Ynnari -2500
Empire - 3000 (Current build)

Krieg! What a hole...

Its 2k points with upgrades, but not all of them, just those I use on the TT.

Some of my guardsmen have Vox Casters, but its only cosmetic.

I usually go with basing it by what's actually on the model personally. I know some people have different preferences, but optional upgrades that aren't modeled don't count for me. So my totals are always based on that.

My estimate is pretty much bare bones, IE the Death Company in my BA are just battlescribed as bare bones DC, excluding the 20ish JPs or the various power weapons, melta pistols, etc. It also doesn't include the stuff that was bought to be sold, which is another $7k ish as of right now.

I have my maximum APOC list in battlescribe. Whenever I buy new models, I add them to my maximum list with typical upgrades I would take.

I use that list for my sig.

2k pts Tyranids (Hive Fleet Hornet)
