So I have been meaning to try out the Beaststar for an upcoming tournament on the 11th of October. It is using BAO rules, so thought that this would be a bit of a tough environment for the BeastStar due to Maelstrom and Primary missions going on simultaneously. Anyways, on to the lists!
*Note: I apologize for the quality of the pictures. The pics were taken inside my garage! I am currently working on painting most of the models seen, so I also apologize for them not being fully painted*

Spoiler:

*Credit for the list goes to Thomas Dunslund. I apologize for not making my own! While it slightly tweaked from his list, it is pretty much the same*

Gets 1 Invis on a Spiritseer, 2 Empowers, Fortune, and 2 Hallucinates. Fortune is on Farseer, the rest of the key powers are spread throughout the Spiritseers
'Warlord Trait is useless despite Battle-forged reroll

----Guardians----
Both Farseers take Prescience, Guide, and Psychic Shriek.
Warlord Trait: Conqueror of Cities

Here's a picture of the Board

MISSION:
BAO Scenario 1. Emperors Will(2 obj) and Modified Maelstrom(2 obj)
Deployment: Dawn of War

BeastStar wins the roll to choose sides, as well as roll to go first. They choose the bottom side, and after seeing how the Guardians deploy, choose to go first. The BeastStar had deployed somewhat aggressively, with most models at the 12" line, but all of them were able to get 4+ cover saves except for 1 wave serpent. Windriders and Kabalites went into reserve. The Guardians deployed in the opposite corner of the BeastStar, except for the Star Cannon War Walkers, who deployed directly across from the BeastStar as bait. The War Walkers then all scouted.
DEPLOYMENT
Spoiler:

Guardians then attempt to Seize the Initiative, and roll a

Guardians Turn 1
Spoiler:

Maelstrom Objectives:
Guardians: Have a unit in Enemy Deployment Zone, Have 3 units and no Enemy units in their Deployment Zone
BeastStar: Have a unit in Enemy Deployment Zone, Kill an Enemy Unit
Movement
Walkers move up, the Starcannon walkers move forwards to engage the Beaststar, while the EML and BL War Walkers move to take out the enemy Wave Serpents. 1 Wave Serpent is able to move to get LOS to the Beaststar, but the other 3 Serpents, due to attempting to refuse flank, are not able to see the Beaststar, so go up the side and look to open the enemy Wave Serpents as well. The Serpent that moved to engage the BeastStar drops off its Guardian Squad for a Maelstrom objective

Psychic
With the Farseers still inside Wave Serpents, it's onto the Shooting Phase!

Shooting:
The Shooting phase is deadly for the Guardians. The Star Cannon War Walkers Battle Focus 5", then open fire on the BeastStar, killing 4 Khymerae despite a 3+ cover save from Ruins and the Baron. The Wave Serpent then manages to kil an additional 3 Beastmasters from the unit. The BL War Walkers open fire on the middle Wave Serpent, but can't get past the Jink Save. The EML War Walkers then manage to do a single HP to the Wave Serpent behind ruins on the rightside of the table. After all 3 of the Guardian Wave Serpents fire their Shields and Scatter Lasers, both Wave Serpents go down, and one unit of DA is pinned. I had wanted to Flat Out a Wave Serpent into the BeastStar deployment zone for a Maelstrom point, but wanted to finish off the Wave Serpent instead.

BeastStar Turn 1
Spoiler:

Movement
BeastStar moves up, both Wraithknights move to the left center of the board to shoot at the nearest Wave Serpent. The Dire Avenger squad that wasn't pinned moves to shoot the EML War Walkers

Psychic Phase
Guide goes to a WK successfully, and Invis goes off on the BeastStar, but with a Perils. A 2 is rolled on the Perils table, meaning the Spiritseer loses a power for good. Of course, he loses Invis. Wow, first getting seized, then losing Invis turn 1...Fortune is blocked when the Farseer attempted to put it on the right Wraithknight.

Shooting:
The BeastStar shooting is lackluster, with the Wraithknights unable to get past the Wave Serpents Jink Save. The BeastStar runs a solid 5", which almost makes up for losing Invis. Nope, nevermind. It doesn't...
Lastly, the DA on the right shoot at the EML War Walkers just for fun, and roll 3 6s! All three get through the War Walkers Invuln, so a War Walker is killed and another loses a Hull Point! A little bit of luck in an otherwise terrible turn for the BeastStar

Way ta go Dire Avengers! You were the only guys to kill something!

Maelstrom:
Guardians: 1
BeastStar: 0

Maelstrom Objectives Turn 2
Guardians: Kill an Enemy Unit, Hold the Blue Maelstrom objective(By the Star Cannon War Walkers)
BeastStar: Kill an Enemy Unit, Have a unit in the Enemy Deployment Zone

Guardians Turn 2
Spoiler:

Movement
Wave Serpents back up from the BeastStar. War Walkers shuffle a bit.

Shooting: The EML War Walkers fire 4 s4 ap4 small blasts at the Dire Avengers, but they roll 3 6s for cover saves, so 1 survives! The 3 Wave Serpents who didn't Jink last turn fire at the front Wraithknight, and fail to do a single wound thanks to it passing 6 armor saves! The Bright Lance War Walkers then fire, and do 2w, with the Guardian Bright Lance in the backfield doing another wound. Finally, the Star Cannon Walkers shoot at it, dropping it a further wound, so has 2w left.

The Snap-shooting Wave Serpent manages to kill a Khymerae from the BeastStar(So is now down to 12 Khymerae, but has all the characters).

BeastStar Turn 2
Spoiler:

Wraithknight on the right moves to the 2hp Wave Serpent(Will need a 10" charge), while the BeastStar guns for the Star Cannon Walkers(They will need a 6" charge with Fleet). A unit of Bikes comes in near the EML Walkers to shoot them out of the BeastStar deployment Zone

Psychic Phase
Empower and Fortune go off on the BeastStar, and Guide goes to the Wraithknight on the left.

The Wraithknights shoot at the closest Serpent, and manage to do 2hp and remove the Scatter Laser despite it Jinking. The bike unit kills the wounded War Walker!

Here is the top left after the two assaults

Both the Wraithknight and BeastStar make their charges, and both destroy their targets

Maelstrom Score
Guardians: 1
BeastStar: 2

Guardians Turn 3
Spoiler:

Movement:
The Wave Serpents move up but make sure they have LOS to the Beaststar, while the BL War Walkers line the bikes up in their sights. Lastly, a Farseer and his Guardians disembark to make sure that the Wraithknight dies.

Psychic Phase
Guide is blocked, and Psychic Shriek rolls triple 1s against the WK...less than impressive Farseer!

The Guardians kill the WK easily. The Guardian squad up top manages to kill an impressive 5 Khymerae despite Fortune. A Wave Serpent shoots at them and kills the last Beastmaster, and puts 5 wounds on Baron, who passes all his saves. The Scatter Laser from the next Wave Serpent kills the Baron however, with the Shield killing a Spiritseer. The EML Walker shoots at the bike squad, killing one. They fail morale and run off the table. The BeastStar is reduced to 2 Spiritseers, the Farseer, and 5 Khymerae by the end of the shooting

BeastStar Turn 3
Spoiler:

The second and final Wind Rider bike squad comes in, and this time goes the left, away from the action, hoping for a late run on the Emperor's Will objective. The 5man Dire Avenger squad moves to shoot at the BL Walkers since there are no other targets in range

Psychic Phase
Shriek kills 4 Guardians, who pass morale. The remaining WK is guided, and the BeastStar is Fortuned

Shooting:
The Dire Avengers manage to again be the bane of the War Walkers, doing 3hp of damage! The WK shoots at the Warlords Wave Serpent, and causes it to Jink. It passes it cover save.

In the Assault Phase, the BeastStar predictably kills the Guardians
Sorry, no pictures this turn!

MaelStrom Objectives:
BeastStar: 4
Guardians: 2

For turn 4, here are the Maelstrom Objectives:
BeastStar: Hold the Red Maelstrom(By their Dire Avengers), Have a unit in Enemy DZ
Guardians: Have a unit in Enemy DZ, Kill an Enemy Unit

Guardians Turn 4
Spoiler:

Time to finish this...
Guardians disembark south to deal with the Dire Avengers. both Guardian squads on the top of board move in range of the BeastStar. Wave Serpents shuffle back a bit.

Psychic Phase
Despite Runes of Witnessing literally every casting attempt fails...bummer!

Shooting
10 Guardians+Farseer shoot at 5 Dire Avengers in the open. The result? 2 dead Dire Avengers. Wow. The Guardian squads in the north manage to kill a Khymerae each, while a pair of Wave Serpents manage to kill 2 Khymerae and both remaining Spiritseers. The other Wave Serpent, with the help of the BL War Walkers, does nothing to the WK. The Farseer with a unit of Guardians up top charges the enemy Farseer and single Khymerae that remain. Amazingly the enemy Farseer+Khymerae inflict 2 unsaved wounds, taking none in return, and the Guardians fall back off the board! Crap...That didn't work out

BeastStar Turn 4
Spoiler:

The Wraithknight moves to engage the Guardian squad that is left up north, while the Farseer+Khymerae move towards the nearest Wave Serpent to wreck it in assault. The unit of Jetbikes moves closer to the Emperors Will Objective

The plan sounds great! Until Fortune is denied

In the shooting phase, the 3 remaining Dire Avengers down south kill 2 guardians.

The Wraithknight then charges the Guardians up north, and takes 2w from Overwatch, then fails the 7" charge. Finally, the Farseer and dog make their assault to the Wave Serpent, and reduce it to 1hp, but are unable to finish it off.

Guardians Turn 5
Spoiler:

Shooting kills the Wraithknight, Farseer, and Khymerae, with a Wave Serpent moving Flat Out onto the Emperors Will that the Jetbikes were on. With that, the BeastStar concedes as they have 3 bikes left, are losing Secondary, and can no longer win Primary.

BeastStar Turn 5
Spoiler:

Game ended last turn

Postgame Thoughts:
Spoiler:

That game was alot of unlucky dice for the BeastStar. Between getting seized and losing both Serpents turn 1 along with a handful of the Beastpack, as well as losing Invis turn 1 from a Perils, I don't feel that this was a decisive game. I will rematch them soon, because I feel that the Guardians got off easy

As for how the BeastStar was played, I probably should've tried to get a second Invis when rolling for powers. Having Empower is great for the BeastStar, but I think having 2 Invis is more important Next time I'll have the Farseer roll on Telepathy as well, and try to get 2 Invis and an Empower

I will watch this one unfold.

Advice: If you can't afford one of FrontLineGaming's F.A.T mats, then go to a fabric store. "Joann's" is all over the U.S. For a couple bucks you can get 2 yards of felt that easily covers 40k's 6x4' need. I recommend light or dark green. I have been using them (black and 'sand') for years.

Appreciate the advice! I admit that sadly, while our terrain looks great, putting it on a plywood sheet takes away from the aesthetic a bit

Turns 1-2 Up!

Wow, so far the dice have hated the BeastStar, but they have managed to pull ahead on Secondary, and have the mobility to get Linebreaker. So despite the BeastStar losing Invis and getting seized on, they are currently in the lead and in the Guardians deployment Zone. However, there are 40 Guardians ready to pop out and open fire. Will it be enough to finish the BeastStar, or will the BeastStar pull a win despite the dice so far?

Turns 3-4 now up!

Wow, this game is so far not turning out how I thought it would, but yet the BeastStar is still ahead on the secondary...Can they maybe get Linebreaker and Warlord for a draw?

Pretty bad luck so far, on both sides. Kinda hard to tell who's going to take it, so I'm just going to vote for the one with more wave serpents remaining at this point.

No offence but Guardian-Themed Eldar is a bit misleading for a list with 4 serpents and 9 dakka walkers. I was clearly expecting to see something like a huge blob with Eldrad.
