In the recent NOVA open the undefeated list took a naked autarch as its hq.

I was wondering why you would do that instead of take a spirit seer when they are both the same points. I understand the autarch is harder to kill, but is that extra hardness worth giving up potential invisibility, or psychic shriek? I feel like there is something I'm missing.

Here is the list for reference

The Autarch was his warlord so the better durability makes it less likely to give out Slay the Warlord to the opponent.

GW is scared of girls. Why do you think they have so much trouble sculpting attractive female models? Because girls have cooties and the staff at GW don't like looking at them for too long because it makes them feel funny in their naughty place.

I could see that being the case. It would make the swooping hawks more relieable.

I believe that wave serpents not being able to take wave serpents as dedicated transports is a confirmed error that games workshop has promised to rectify in the next codex.

No, but you'll probably be able to take empty Wave Serpents as a FA choice given how 7th has been doing transports.

I think that would be fair and make eldar more balanced so they could actually be competitive

And maybe nerf basic marines some more? Get rid of catachans? Make space wolves more goofy?

It's also confirmed that wave serpents will be able to ride jetbikes and cast fortune. Furthermore, it's rumored they'll also recieve a dataslate: Wave serpents - everything is ballanced, nothing is broken.

Wave Serpents will also become T8 Monstrous Creatures with the Transport special rule, and may fire their Serpent Shields four times a turn.

In response to the actual topic, though; denying Slay the Warlord and adding to Reserves sounds like it. I can't read the pdf (I'm on a netbook, at the moment, and it hates everything), but could it be possible that he was also denying a chance for whatever the "kill a psyker" objective is?

Possible, but he'd also be denying himself the 'cast a psychic power' maelstrom card (and two extra dispel dice). I imagine it's more likely for the reserves (if he put anything in reserve) or simply so he didn't have to remember what was actually in his Wave Serpents.

@Topic:
I would also consider the +1 to reserves and the improved survivability an important point. In a competitive list it's all about tweaking chances to see consistent effects over multiple games (viewed in average). And I also see the survivability and the rerolls more consistent than adding the WP and hoping for a good psy power, which will work every now and then but not consistently in each game.

This, and it also works for allies which is big if you are not going pure eldar. I also give mine a fusion gun if I have the points because well you never know when it's going to come in handy.

Yeah, that fusion gun in combination with a jetbike allows you to turn it into a threat should you need it, can be an objective grabber even if you hide/protect it and also has a certain survivability with jink. Since I usually also play some guardian jetbikes I sometimes let the Autarch join the Guardians to deliver him to a vehicle and more often than not survive the counter-strike to get back again (thanks to the 2D6 in the assault phase).
