HEAVY: 3x Tractor Cannon Mek Guns + 6x extra Krew
HEAVY: 3x Tractor Cannon Mek Guns + 6x extra Krew
FORT: 1x Aegis Defense Line with Communications Array
Total: 1850 points

Not entirely sure how well it would go, but I'm fairly certain it would be able to handle most common builds, though it might struggle with deathstar-type lists. The excess of Tractor cannons is more to assure air superiority for the Bommas, but could easily be replaced if one isn't expecting too many aircraft.

This would get pretty handily shredded by an eldar list. It does have tons of anti-air, but with the reduction in air units, those guns would just be snap shooting away!
Blitzes could get a couple tanks, probably, but blitz are a poor investment over all for vehicle removal. Exchanging all three for three units of tankbustas would be better.

Well i just won a tournament last week end with orks with 3 crushing victory facing an eldar and two necron players.
My army was the following :
Big Boss on bike with PK
Medik on bike with BP
Mek
3 Meganobz in a truk
8 tankbustas with 3 squig bombs in a truk
8 tankbustas with 3 squig bombs in a truk
12 boys, nob, PK, BP in a truk
12 boys, nob, PK, BP in a truk
11 warbikers, nob, PK
4 warbuggys
4 warbuggys
15 lootas
4 AA artillary (not sure of english name) with 4 ammo grots
4 KMK with 4 ammot grots
The aim of the army was to have too many different units that were a threat and it worked perfectly.
i faced
a necron liste with 5 flyers, an arch, annihilation barge and 2 command barges that i just wrecked (i think there were 2 flyers with 1hp left at the end as well as maybe 10 warriors around)
a necron list with spyder spam that had a few warriors left at the end.
an eldar list with 4 WS, a spinner, a hunter, farseer, a knight, an autarch, 2*5 spiders, 2*3 jetbikes. At the end he had his farseer and spinner and a few avengers left.

That's a relatively bad Eldar list, I wouldn't be surprised if the player wasn't very good either.
And tournaments!=tournaments.
If I happen to win a local tournament with 12 players or something like that, I don't think it'll mean much in the way of "army list is good" or "I'm good".
Sure I'll be happy and think my list is not too bad, but that's about all the conclusions I would draw from that.

Well, the issue is that any ork list is hard-countered by either Wave Serpent spam or Invisible Seerstar or podmarines or necrons or tau gunline.
While you can build a couple of armies which would defeat three of those, no army can actually defeat them all. Battlewagons belly-flop to necrons and pods, green tide gets eaten by either eldar build and bike-heavy lists get murderd by seerstars and tau.
For that reason, I agree with the OP that winning a big tournament is hard, if not impossible. Winning three competitive games in row however is not, as long as you don't meet one of your hard-counters. My last three games were against 2x tzeench daemons and wave serpent spam, no problem. Had it been pod marines and necrons, I'd have three losses under my belt.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Invisible seerstar is not competitive, plus Orks have horrible BS and tons of attacks to begin with so they don't really care.
Plus, at 6 points per model, you don't mind having a 750 point deathstar nibbling away at your army.
Wave Serpent spam against truk spam ? guess again, ork win 100% of the time.

Invisible seer star seems to have three placements in the top ten of NOVA. I'd all call that competitive.
The issue with that list is that they feed you three bikes per turn and simply ignore the huge blob otherwise.
I didn't even mention trukk spam.
Maybe you should work on your reading comprehension before you start being condescending.

I never said my tournament was a hard one, and they were some restrictions (such as no triplet and no ally) and maybe some players were bad, but so am i
What i mean is that even against 4 serpents + WK + farseer + multiple jetbikes, i won a crushing victory, same against necron with double command barge and flyer spam, and against spider spam + annihilation barges + flyers
Of course im not saying it will win NOVA or anything so competitive, but it still is an army with which you can have fun and win some games against competitive armies and lists.

You should stop trying to be right so hard, it makes you look like a fool.
I highly doubt that you have traveled to the future and played against the unreleased dark eldar codex, so the difference between my argument and yours is actual experience versus imagination and half a leaked codex.

I will totally take you up on that challenge.
The challenge is:
You make an 1850 tourney legal ork list (Let's say 2014 NOVA rules). No allies. Play 3 tourney missions in a competitive meta. Crons, Eldar, SM bikers, daemon spawn or whatever.... Make video bat reps... Post 'em. If you win 2/3 games, I'll mail you that stompa. HONOR SYSTEM APPLIES.
@sleekid good job bro. Orks getting a +1 in the win column is a +1. I'd take it vs a newb, girl, baby, puppy, tree branch, forfeit ... Any way I can get one at this point.

And easier to fake the dice to your favor.
And SOMEONE will try that.
And even than, you can just keep playing until you win, and only upload the wins.
In any case, the challenge is fundamentally flawed.
Because orks are not UNDERpowered, its a few chase builds that are OVERpowered, and these are what you see on the competitive meta.
Crons still have the insanely underprices annibarge and night scythe, and under 7th the bargelord is broken until updated.
Eldar are known to be absurd with thier wave serphents.
SM bikes are plain wrong, and a design mistake that will not come back on next codex (turning things to troops is getting axed!)
Daemon spawn....actually despite the fuss that were made of how broken these will be when 7th hit, they never got any meaningful wins. its just not working in a 5-7 turn game. (if the game was 7-9 turns, it would have been broken. but 5-7 is not enough time to make use of all you summoned.)

That logic makes no sense. People only videotape the end of a game turn, which means you don't see dice rolls anyways.
You can also "keep playing until you win" with a video batrep too. No one is going to make a video that's 7.5 hours long of 3 whole tournament games, and no one is going to watch that.

I'm not going to post any video batreps nor do I want to win a Stompa. I will however give you the list that I have been having great success with so far against a few good lists. This is the list I am planning on taking to the LVO.
CAD:
Warboss with Warbike, Powerklaw and Da Finkin Cap
Painboy with Warbike
Shoota Boyz x10
Shoota Boyz x10
Tankbustaz x10 with a Trukk and Ram
Tankbustaz x10 with a Trukk and Ram
Warbikerz x13 with Nob and Powerklaw
Lobbas x3 with an Ammo Runt
Traktor Gunz x3 with three Ammo Runts
Aegis Defence Line
Bullyboyz Formation:
Meganobz x5 with Trukk and Ram
Meganobz x5 with Trukk and Ram
Meganobz x5 with Trukk and Ram
This list so far has demolished a Dark Angels Triple Landraider Crusader allied with a Knight list as well as the Adamantine Lance allied with Eldar Wave Serpent spam. I destroyed all three Knights by turn 3 in that game also. The main strategy is to shoot for the infiltrating warlord trait on the strategic table and depending on the setup/scenario either infiltrate all the Tankbustaz plus a squad of Meganobz and their Trukks or i'll do all three units of Meganobz with their Trukks. Just in case anyone questions this you give the infiltrate rule to the squads themselves which automatically confers to their dedicated transport. Hope this helps!

Some good ork lists I've seen around my area have 1-2 artillery units with max grots, a dakkajet or two, a nob combat deathstar and lots and lots of boys. Ghazgul also seems pretty good, not sure about his cost though so not sure how competitive he actually is. But I saw him go toe to toe with a knight and they killed eachother

I saw this list at Nova and pretty much pooped my pants. I was on the fence with bringing either a heavy flyer list or heavy wraith list and hadn't heard of the new ork supplement until Nova. I've only played 4 games so far with it and was only smacked around in the first game. The other three were either almost too close to call or a win.
But back on topic. Um, yeah I got nothing. I've been slowly collecting orks for two years anticipating the release of the new 'dex only to be woefully hurt. But like I said wow what a great formation they make!

So far i'm having succsess with footslogging orkses. The games are very close but they have lots of potential and even if killed, earn their points back by controling the midfield, delaying the opponent and scoring points. I'm sure, they'll have problems vs warwalker and waveserpent eldar but they're close to immune to such common things like gravgun spam (including the feared 700 pt centstar and white scar bikers focused on gravguns), haywire spam (with the new dark eldar) and some other stuff. They're quite vulnerable to telepathy though.
I'm not playing higher than 1500 with 1250 format being used most often. So, maybe it's a point-based thing. I usually have much more stuff on board than my opponents who are a bit locked within 6-th ed tournament min-max mindset. Yep, they kill more but tend to have problems with tarpits and board controle. By the time, they've finished off the midfield boyz, i'm allready leading the victory point race. That doesn't work 100% of the time, ofc. But quite often the sheer presence of the green threat in right places is enough to get an upper hand.

Posting this for a fellow player (language barrier for Him)
We just got back from the CAEN Regional GT played 5-6th december and he won 3 out of 5 games
It was a Team (6 player) GT with modified Maelstrum and Modified Primary missions for Day 1
A little bit about the GT:
it should have been 16 team in competition but one of them droped out at the last minute.
Follow this link and you can see the global FRANCE ranking for all the team that have competed.
(some were team made up from people that came together just for the Tounrement)
FYI: Team Bisounourse was the team that won the right to represent FRANCE in the ETC 2014 and has been consistently raked best team of the country for the last 3 years. (at the ETC 2014 Bisournours representing FRANCE placed 12/30)
You will also notice that team Viking is currently ranked 7th best team for FRANCE this year.
While French Wagg is ranked 35th and Team Warmaggedon (my team) is ranked 39.
http://www.tabletoptournaments.net/fr/t3_ntr_club.php?cid=10&gid=3
This give you a relative power level of the people involved in the GT
-----
Here you will see the end results
http://www.warhammer-forum.com/index.php?showtopic=226315
Team Bisounourse taking 1st place and team Viking second place
Mr Flibble from team ADD finished the tournament with the following results:
Game 1: 12/8 Win
Game 2: 8/12 Loss
Game 3: 19/1 Win
Game 4: 6/14 Loss
Game 5: 13/7 Win
Total W:3 / L:2 => 60% Win ratio
Game 2 would have been a win if the game had gone into a Turn 5 (long team table set up and delay made it so that Game 2 had only 2 hours for everyone instead of 3.)
-----
on to Tourney specifics.
You will notice that each team member have a role that are the following:
Champion : Must have one named character. All HQ have the rule Objective securing unit but are worth 1 VP
Master of the Fleet: Can spend up to 8 team points on flyers with a minimum of 4. All his Fast attacks are Objective securing unit but are worth 1 VP
Ambassador: Must take a minimum of 250 pts of allied detachment. All units in this allied detachment are Objective securing units but also worth 1 VP
Master of Defense: Must take a Fortification. Every Heavy Support are Objective Secured units but also worth 1 VP
Master of Strategy: Must declare one table before the tournament. At the start of each games he gets to pick his Warlord Trait. Any choice made in other table must be rolled as in the BRB. He also gets +1 on the following rolls: Deployment Zone, Deployment, Seize the initiative
Martyr: Plays with only 1700 pts but all the army is objective securing unit. Every destroyed unit gains the player 1 VP while every surviving Unit give 1 VP to opponent
