Hey all. I like to play 40k, though I have only played it a couple of times. I have spent a lot of time painting, but rarely get to play.

I actually painted my Space Marines purple and gold before I knew that there was a chapter with those colors. I didn't know about the lore, I just thought it was a good look.

I'm going to ask some questions over on the fluff forums, thanks for the welcome.

There is not this idea.

Hello, and welcome.

I've come to see that there are a lot of people who mainly have time to paint, myself included. I think it's ok!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

It doesn't matter if the colour scheme is taken or not.

Many (if not all) of the factions in 40k are designed specifically so that there is room for player stories. In the case of Space Marines, this also allows you to take your favourite Chapter and create a Successor, creating your own guys with heavy inspiration from your favourite canon Chapter, even if that just means you want red Ultramarines with a different symbol.

If you want to put a name to your gold and purple Marines, you have every right to do so. The setting greatly supports the creation of your own content, and the galaxy is so vast that you could write whole epic sagas and still not disturb the canon.

Welcome to the board, I like that you got the name Triceratops.

And Frozen Ocean hit the nail on the head. You could either make your marines whatever chapter it is that uses the purple and gold (Hawk Lords?) OR by all means just say "screw it" and call your chapter whatever you want. I for one love it when people make up their own chapters, as long as they take the lore somewhat seriously and don't call it like "the grilled cheese sandwich knights" or something flippant, but that's just my personal taste. Go with what makes you happy.

Hey Triceratops, welcome to Dakka!

And purple and gold is a great choice for a Space Marine chapter. Forget the Hawk Lords though, the Soul Drinkers are where it's at
