So the Tantalus and Reaper are both very cool models. Are they any good though? Or are they, like many Forgeworld units, dissapointingly overcosted?

Not too sure on what slots they occupy but if it's HS they would be battling with the Ravager is is extremely good (at least in the 5th edition codex, haven't got 7th one yet).

Being Eldar, they've also got exclusive use to one of the best Titans, the Revenant (I think Phantom too, not too sure on that one).

If your the type that wants a big boat with a big unit then the Tantalus isnt that bad, its little over cost tho.

The Reaper is the same cost as the new Ravager with 3 DL's but it shoots aS7 ap3 that does D3 haywire hit to Vehicles. It also has an option for a small blast s5 ap4 Haywire.

NOTE*** The way the new Ravager is looking tho It might be a better option now for Heavy Support.

Ravager:
3 DL for 130pts that has to Snapfire 1 DL if it move more than 6", so on aver you barley get 2 hits in (Unless you move 6" or less then you get 2 hits) with s8 you will needs 3-4's to pen/glance AV11/12 getting on average HP off. Out of 3 Turns you'll do an average of 3 HP's with 1 pen average.

Reaper:
You have a 67% chance to get your 1 hit, and average for 2 Haywire hits, only needing a 2+ to glance. With 3 rounds, you will hit lets say 2 hits, average D3 will be 4 hatwire hits, thats 1 more chance to get off a HP than a Ravager.

So either way they are about the same in damage wise for the same points. Im almost thinking about going with the Reaper due to if it hits its more likely get off a HP.

Reaper and Tantalus are both Heavies. I own a Reaper myself and quite enjoy the giant haywire laser of doom thing it's packing. The Tantalus has similar weaponry as well as transport capacity IIRC

The Tantalus is basically 2 Raiders put together with better Front Armor, It is a very effective Large unit transport, If you really need a 20m transport, its for you. It also has 4 HP I believe.

PS: I dont have the book on me, but I remember seeing you can take it for the Court, and with Sslyths being amazing, able to take a unit of 12, add a Archon that might be a doable transport for it, at that point your looking a a 400point eggs basket.

Might be good for transporting bulky wraith blades too...

Tantalus is a decent big sail barge. Nice weapons stock, can take the normal slew of aftermarket wargear, provided it still exists in the new dex. It is fairly big but has great armor for a DE vehicle.

The Reaper is great, I like it better than a ravager and would take multiples if I had them. Not that DE need the help against MCs, but the super laser IDing on a 5 or 6 is pretty dang spiffy, and the up to 4 haywire hits against vehicles is pretty nice too. It does suffer from one shot syndrome but for general AT, I would take three of those over three ravagers any day.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

I always wanted the Tentalus, but never felt I needed it, with the New DE dex, and the Court being so strong, also Grosts are even stronger now, I might get it as a transport.

Put 6+ grots + Uri in it, or 12 Sslyths + archon.

may be worth waiting to see if they change them for the new Codex......if you are plyaing new edition.

They may well loose the Flickerfields and other cool stuff :(

Well, I actually have something to contribute here!

The tantalus can pack 16 models, has 5 hp, 12/12/10, flicker field and two plus disintegrators. These bad boys are S5 AP2 Heavy 6. Also, it has deep strike, because reasons. It's a heavy support choice or a dedicated transport for a court of the archon. Oh, and it's got scythe vanes, which are cool, but only just. You have to move flat out and if you pass over an enemy unit it takes D6 S7 AP2 hits, or a single S7 AP2 hit against vehicles. Also, if you ram, you roll an extra D6 for armor penetration. All this for cheaper than a land raider.

The reaper is also fun. It's got its haywire shot, either 24" S5 AP4 Large Blast or 36" S7 AP3 that does D3 haywire hits or causes ID on a 5+. I think it's a hair more expensive than a ravager, but will reliably strip more hull points I think (someone ran the man in the DE N&R thread). Also, if the rumors are true, only venoms in the new DE codex have flicker fields, but since FW don't seem to interested in updating their books, you can still give night shields to your tantulus (which comes with a flicker field) and night shields + flicker fields to your reaper.

One of them filthy casuals...

Pretty much this

The reaper is downright better than the new ravager. More mobile, better surviability, more effective hull stripping, for 1 wych more. It also has an alternative firing mode, that helps you deal with hordes once the tanks are dead.
