So our mini dachshund has a case of fleas.
Been fighting them for about 2 weeks now.
I have bathed her, combed her, and even treated her with some liquid stuff from the vet.
The little blood sucking bastards are still around though.
I originally took about 60 off the first time and its gotten far, far fewer ( 4 yesterday, but 7 this morning already).
Any advice or experience waging war against them?
We have trashed her beds, sprayed the areas she frequenrs with flea killing spray...vacuumed...
Do room/house foggers work?

I've used whatever the current best version of Advantix/Frontline type-neck-drops is on my dogs or the last like 12 years and have never had a flea problem.
Not sure how well it works once an infestation has begun in earnest.

Time for total war. 1. You need to fog the house and spray your yard. 2. Keep with the baths of you command wiener. Eggs hatch and reinfest. 3. keep doing the liquid that the vet gave you, and get a collar as well. Is it something you put on her neck? 4. The areas she walks may have lot of fleas, and they may be coing in from other locations if you're living in an apartment.

Advantix / Frontline will solve this particular problem pretty quickly.

Maybe it's city life, but my dog hasn't had fleas in the 7 years I've had him.
My parent's dog (and cats) have fleas, and it's a nightmare dealing with them from what I understand. Good luck.

Give the dog a bath, douse in fleakiller, and then bug-bomb the house.
Also realize you'll probably have to do this every few years(maybe not the bug bombs). Fleas are basically everywhere, so unless you never let the dog outside or contact other dogs its going to be a program of control, not eradication.

oddly enough a pet and people safe solution that works (I have watched fleas run from this stuff with my own eyes!) is Marigold spray.
its used in the equine world as a horse spray for flies but it works on ticks and fleas as well.
when I lived in town our dogs always got them from all of the crap neighbors who never bothered to bathe their pets and we would constantly be spraying our dogs.
its safe to spray all over them and it doesn't hurt yourself and they smell nice. also planting marigolds in your yard will act as a natural barrier for them.

Bug bombs are a terrible idea for 2 reasons;
1) They rarely actually kill anything. They just make things run. Run to other parts of the house/apartment/building. I.E. They can come back.
2) If the problem is coming from a specific area, and you bomb it, a bug bomb ensures it will be coming from every area.

We just got a new pup, and the guy we got him from told us that you don't need anything fancy to combat fleas. Just use anti-dandruff shampoo (is that the right word in English?). We tried it and it worked admirably. Our dog is now completely flea-free.

We used a similar product with our cats. It kinda does a number on them so they spend the rest of the day asleep but after the first time they got fleas...
Never again.

Ummm... are you sure you used the right one? Every one of the ones I have seen for my dogs (permethrin) has warnings everywhere not to use on cats (it's toxic to felines). So, you said "something similar" which makes me assume you got one formulated for cats (imidacloprid) but with the results you describe I feel like I should ask.

They are a pain in the ass, my dog got a flea infestation last year and it took a while to get rid of. I'd been using frontline on him which seemed to work fine for several years and then I either got a defective batch or they changed their formula as suddenly it wasn't working. I picked up the Hartz ultra guard pro which works much better and was also less expensive and have been using it since. I had to give him repeated baths with an anti flea shampoo, first bath killed tons of fleas then each following bath was maybe 5-10 fleas each time. I used a flea spray on the carpet and bedding and also washed all the bedding in hot water, the eggs can survive a cold water wash. While the flea baths and frontline/hartz kill adult fleas on contact or drive them away the eggs are the stubborn part as it can take up to 90 days for them to hatch. If they were laying lots of eggs around the house you'll continue to get them for a couple weeks, but they should start lessening quickly if you did the spray and vacuum part. A bug bomb won't help get rid of the eggs, only the vacuuming and hot water wash will be effective and even then it's a process of days/weeks. Keep giving the dog a bath every 2-3 days based on how often the shampoo says they can be bathed, flea shampoo and repellant is a toxin so make sure not to overdo it as it can make you dog sick so don't exceed the recommendations.

Marigold's work.
We've got a weed where I live. It grows alongside the railway tracks (in the rail corridors). It's common name is "Stinking roger" but it is also known as "mexican marigold" (smells like stale urine) among other names. Botanical name is Tagetes minuta.
Apparently it deters fleas - ALL fleas. Stinks to heaven and is a beeatch to eradicate as a weed, though. Has to be cut down, the stumps treated with herbicide (or failing that, something industrial Monsanto strength) over the course of several years, THEN dug out. If you leave anything behind, it will resprout.
