These are my pride and joy from 2001-ish:
Note the classic 3rd edition bases!
This is my oldest image, though. I was selling this to pay rent (sad!) back in 2000 or so. It was taken with a digital camera that wrote images to a floppy disk (that's like a magnetic clay tablet).

I will quietly sob as I've either stripped or sold off my early collection. To my external regret. From my first painted squadron of Bombards, my lead Shadowsword, my Wolf Guard terminators to my Siege Warlord Titan. All gone... Pillock that I am...

The space wolf army I used from 1991 to 2010 is the same one I gave packed away. Its retired now, but may see the dice again one day.
The undead army I bought in 1990 is seeing the table in anger this Christmas in a modified pike and shotte ruleset.

I've compensated over my loss a bit over the last 5 years with an extended splurge on Oldhammer and Rogue Trader period models (a scant few of which are in me gallery).

Little bid of an oddity this week: When I was home over thanksgiving visiting my folks, I was talking to my dad about miniatures (mostly in regards to photography). He mentioned that a friend he met while over in Germany doing some family history research had given him some painted tin soldiers. They might be actual antiques, or just vintage reproductions. But they looked to be pressed/embossed 2d minis. But before we had fancy things like plastic, this was the shape of miniature wargames. Enjoy your weekends all.

Not the first miniatures I painted (that would be a bunch of Grenadier fantasy metals), but the first 40K ones at least. Classic RTB01's, custom chapter - the "Grim Reapers", painted some time around Christmas 1990.
EDIT: Holy crap, that's 26 years ago! Makes me feel really old...

A chunk of my RTB01s are slowly clawing their way out of the Simple Green. It would be quicker, but there is a limit to how many I can scrub in one sitting.
They are on track to join the 30k side of my shelf as a legion tactical squad and a heavy support squad with the MLs.

Sigh, once I read that old bit of fluff about marines having a waste disposal function in their armour I could never look at the rtb01 kit the same.

Can you necro a thread about flashbacking to old stuff? It’s not been dormant for that long anyway.
So I was cleaning up my office earlier this week, and pulled a drawer out of my desk to see is anything had fallen behind it. There had, and I instantly thought of this thread.
And old blister pack backer for greenstuff, and a low impact plastic, color-it-yourself d4 from one of the original D&D boxsets.
GW sells the same amount of green stuff (two strips) for $11.50 these days. I just started into the second of my two strips about a year ago. Don’t do a whole lot of sculpting here, just patching gaps in old models mostly. Probably picked that up in the mid/late 90’s.
Ah, the old crappy dice. Had to color the numbers yourself with a crayon. And they did not wear well. This is not high-impact plastic. Roll them enough and the edges would start to go away. A friend of mine has a d20 that’s almost spherical. Still, this was an era where you couldn’t just hit the internet and order whatever you want and have it shipped to your door. Polyhedral dice were rare and precious things.
Hope everyone has a great Friday and weekend.

Nice, I would kill to have all my RTB01's back..... I had A LOT of RTB01's. Along with a lot of lead mini's, sighs. I guess the army I regret selling the most is my old Epic army. I had about 100,000 point between my Space Marines ( I made the whole Ultra-Marine 3rd founding chapter) my Imperial guard ( mostly tanks) and my Titans. I so cant wait for Adeptus Titanticus to come out again.

In another episode of retro-nostalgic current events, some beakies are working their way across my bench.
These guys were stripped and rebuilt. Just starting on the basecoats on the bodies now, will do the MLs next. Then the bolter boys to flesh out the squad. But a RT dev squad to join the tacticals on the shelf.

Not at all, but the ML arms go across the chest, so I paint them separately.

No such thing, it’s all in the crouched, combat ready stance of the old guys. OK, there might have been a -slight- amount of scale creep over the years. Both guys are on the same sized base, just as an FYI. Jealous of on-sprue beakies.

Here’s a finished pic of those retro Devs I posted a WIP of upthread:
Can’t wait to get a pic of a beakie standing next to a Primarus. A fun project for someone with more skill then me would be to make a diorama of two RTBs, one standing on the other’s shoulders, in oversized scraps of primaris armor, trying to blend in.
Sort of like grots infiltrating.
