Early review of the USARF box:
1) The models are gorgeous. Everything will come in a box--barring the Maverick and Dismounted Maverick. They're loose inside of the box itself in a baggy. The Devil Dog is surprisingly compact, with the legs and back half of the torso all one piece and the front half of the torso having the head attached to it. The front half of the torso and the arms are in a baggy.
The Antipode K9 is done similarly.
2) The booklet is fairly nice. There's a brief story in there, which clearly is meant to be the "USARF box contents" but it has a slight profile issue suggesting that the Foxtrot Ranger was initially to be the Sniper Rifle variant.
3) The missions in the booklet are nice... but intended for 300 points. You can barely eke out 145ish from the boxed army contents. Problematic.
The only reason I even bring up the last part is that the box itself says on the back:
Full color 64 page "USAriadna Army Pack" A4 booklet containing introductory USAriadnan background texts, the Infinity Quick Start Rules, 3 ready to play missions and all what you need to learn about the Infinity universe.

Yes, of course.
If someone wants to start one in the N&R forum for the RPG KS from Modiphius - and keep it up to date - I'm sure we'd all appreciate it!
Thanks mate. I don't want to seem like a kill joy, but I can see the RPG discussion getting in depth and lengthy.
A question on monthly releases for anyone whom might know, the recent releases with the grunts - are they for August or September? Also, how many more rounds of releases should we expect before the end of the year?

They're an August release, but they'll hit stores mid/late September (I think?). We still have September, October, November and December, but December probably won't actually be out til January, so probably 3 more actually in stores before the end of the year (4 counting the August stuff). I think.

Grunts are Auguember.
August "preview", September release.
Remember:
"If it's previewed, it ain't releasing this month."
Expect 4 more sets of releases--hopefully. December's releases sometimes get knocked back until January/February if they get bottlenecked.

I find these RPG characters really interesting, because they hark back to the novel Hyperion, one of the main inspirations for Infinity which has numerous elements (basically PanO, Aleph and Nomads).
The characters aren't commandos. They're a diplomat, a priest, a retired soldier, a professor, a detective and a poet. Then they have this insane adventure of interstellar intrigue and an unknown alien force, ranging from cyber-diving to time paradox to alien parasites.
Already I see the connections in how these RPG characters could be used.

Honestly, I would just ignore the 300 point limitation and play it at 150 points or so.
There's no Special Weapons in the box (which is another part that is interesting--as usually there is a Sniper or something like that which uses some SWC points) so it's pretty easy to do.

Well, it's worth mentioning that the Army Pack booklet was written to essentially be "the USARF Army Pack contents in the field on Dawn"--and the Foxtrot Ranger is mentioned as posting himself in a "Medal of Honor" watchtower(so named because anyone who climbed it during an assault on a Navajo Outpost would be awarded one posthumously) and using a Sniper Rifle.
Also it's worth mentioning that when we get the actual Ranger Force starter set? It won't include the Maverick or the Devil Dog--putting the USARF starter set at a whopping 90 points and 0 SWC to 103 points and 1 SWC.
Most starter sets purposely include at least one model with either a special weapon or a specialist profile so that they can have a model that won't need a blister later.

I did--but it's important, in my opinion, for people to understand that once the USARF Army Pack is gone?
The product that will be available is the 6 model boxed set which forms the "core" of the Army Pack.
Foxtrot Ranger(Forward Observer)
Grunt w/ Rifle
Grunt w/ Rifle
Grunt w/ Rifle
Marauder w/ HFT
Minuteman w/ 2 LFT
That product weighs in at anywhere from 40-50 points shy of what most other "starter packs" are, and lacks anything longer ranged than the Rifle.
Someone could make the argument I guess that the Marauder w/ HFT or Minuteman w/ 2 LFT are meant to be the "special weapons" of the team--but those are the default profiles for those models.

So you think someone will part with the mounted if it's separate?
That's encouraging.
I'd like to hope the transition from game to Rpg will go well but how much do we know? Is it going to be set on a specific planet or something?

Depends on how much is unlocked with the Kickstarter. The survey sent out asked about campaign books, intro books, game master screens with book for plot hooks and locations, factions books.
So we will see it set all over the Human Sphere.

Yeah I got the survey yesterday and it mentioned a book for paradiso specifically among a couple of others. They asked about ideas for pledges I sugested a "gamers" pledge to include the faction source book, faction d20's and the faction models which I think would be cool.

The scenarios for the Dire Foes packs are for full 300-point armies, rather than the two models included in the boxes.
What is the points value of the "standard" USAriadna starter? Most of the main faction starters are about 120 points, while the Sectorial starters tend to be higher - 150-160ish, last time I checked.

The Dire Foes packs don't have a notation about missions being playable right out of the box, on the box.
Like I said, only reason I mentioned it is that the Army Pack box has a notation about that.

The whole of the Army Pack is anywhere from 142 to 153 points, depending on how you field the Grunts, Marauder, and Minuteman.
That points value is where most of the starters weigh in at, and have weighed in at for quite some time.

I know, but games don't always make decent RPGs
How will they link the factions into working together? What's the plot? Who are the players supposed to be?

Depends on the campaign and setting.
Factions can and would work together in an O-12 commissioned mission and really not well at all if left on their own, thought the "small 3" play quite nice together.
On the other hand in the first combined offensive the humans played extremely well together, for obvious reasons.
From what I have heard players can play anything from the sidelines to the iconic units from the wargame, which again is something dependent on the campaign and setting, I can see a Hospitaler guiding a mix group of civilians from many factions out of a Paradiso Hellhole, I can even see troops from other factions been part of the group, I cannot see the same Hospitaler joining forces to storm a PanO HQ for intel (creative GMs aside).

I'd really love to see some sort of mechanic that allowed us to take our RPG characters... and transfer them to the Infinity table. That would be super-cool.
Maybe not for 'official events' or tournaments, but just for casual gaming that would be fun.

Infinity started out as an RPG and became a miniature game. The low model count per battles probably comes from the idea of one "party" fighting another "party".
migooo wrote:

You say that like it's a bad thing!
The core book deals with how to put parties together, whether they are homogeneous or heterogeneous factions. Honestly i can think of lots of stuff to do in the Infinity universe even if it's just Shadowrun sans magic. But Infinity doesn't have the baggage of being mercenary criminals for hire.
I mean you can go back to the source and play the action, espionage and politics of Appleseed or Ghost in the Shell. The whole genres of cyberpunk, post-cyberpunk and transhumanism are open to you. You can play dark and gritty or bright and optimistic.
BACK ON TOPIC:
I'm worried the RPG characters are archetypical faction civilians "with guns". I don't see how they can make a male and female miniature for each human faction as part of the KS and not ask for arms and legs. Maybe if this starts a line like Bootleg or the old Iron Kingdom's RPG line then we might get a new fig a year?
Iain.

I'm not saying it's bad at all... it was an RPG??? Okay who stole my brain during this period?
I bet it was during my WW fanboy phase.
So who made the original RPG? And why haven't they picked this up.... so from RPG to wargame to RPG seems very odd

Infinity wasn't an RPG that was produced and available to the public.
It was something the Corvus Belli guys devised from an existing D20 system(IIRC). A large number of the named characters in the game(Bran de Castro, Uxia McNeill for example) started life as the RPG characters of the Corvus Belli guys.
