Hey all.
Wondering if anyone out there has play tested or crunched numbers for Forgeworld's Irillyth and Shadow Spectres? They're awesome models and seem to have decent rules, but are a serious investment (points and $) and I don't have any other Eldar to field them with (I'd be looking at using them to support my DE).

Any input and advice is greatly appreciated!

I bought and tried them; they are just too expensive for what they do. They are also really fragile.

Irillyth is a very usable HQ, just not in a Shadow Spectre squad.
You can use him to make a unit fearless and give it hit and run. His shooting and CC are pretty good, his speed is good enough to keep up with fast units if you straggle some models in the movement phase, then jump tp front in assault.
He does well leading a DE beastpack or Wraithguard unit. Any DE unit that could use a tank, use his fearless or in need of H&R.
He also brings a LD test debuff, you could build around that.
If you make him your warlord (not likely in yyour case) you also have a higher chance of nightfighting, which is a boon for DE.

Spectres.
The models themselves are awesome, so what I did was buy more and field them as Warp Spiders. Warp Spiders bring s6/7, possible AP1 shooting to DE, something which the DE codex lacks.

Supporting Dark Eldar wise, they are not the best. They are simply more expensive warp spiders that are better at killing high AV (which we can do) but worse at killing low AV (which we can't). So unless you could convert or count as Warp Spiders (i've seen a conversion, they luck so much better. Much more movement) you'd be stuck with a Ravager on feet really.

The Phoenix Lord is a different beast though, and could work wonders in a terror themed list. PGL, Terrofex Launchers, Fear, Arch Angles, all of these things work off of ldship tests, something that Irillyth forces you to take on an extra die and take the highest. This guy would work well in a Beast pack due to giving them Hit'n'run, a 2+ save and Fearless.

So PL, not a bad choice. Shadow Specters...not so much.

Solid thank you for the input! I may have to try some as warp spiders and see how that goes, though I'm sure I'll proxy both versions before I do anything.

yeah add that -2 Ld artifact, then the other -2 ld artifact, and then the Coven formation that is -1 ld for a haemoculus and you start getting even high Ld models down to dangerous levels quickly.

Just to re-emphasize what has been said, the squad kinda sucks. Beautiful models, faar too expensive. Its a real shame. The pheonix lord on the other hand isnt half bad. Not the greatest in the world but I would put him in the upper tier of pheonix lords.
