So a quick question. Years ago i played Bretonians and as as far as i can tell the booj is still 1 in the same.
And as i recall to pray you didn't roll off then choose to pray. You chose to prat andautomatically gave you opponent the cgoice of first or second. Am I right?

If you pray you go second. Unless you are playing another Bret player, in which case you both roll off.

You choose pray, and your opponent gets the choice to go first or second.

I don't think so. If you pray, your opponent automatically goes first. No rolls unless they're also Brettonians who chose to pray.

That's exactly how it works. I'll quote the book for you.
"The Bret player may choose to pray for the blessing of the lady before the battle begins but after both players have deployed their army. The enemy can then choose to take the first or second turn, as the whole bretonnian army must kneel to pray before the fight."

Hmmmm. I guess my Brettonian opponents have been slightly lying. They always said praying meant they could only go second.
Not sure why you'd ever choose to not go first though.

If it's against something like a mono-khorne army in blood and glory, you can do pretty well on your first turn. Especially with the + d6 charge banner.

it doesn't matter if it's before or after the roll, a brettonian player always goes second if he/she prays.

Can we get a rules quote on it? Because my memory says it was 'the other player gets to choose whether to go first or not.'

Easy, you go first and move up, Bret player can get off turn 1 charges on you. If they go first, they either sit still (not what a Lance of knights really wants to do) or move up and then you possibly can charge the knights on your turn two instead of taking a charge on their turn 1.

Brets don't want to charge on turn 1 except against someone who doesn't know what he's doing
With Brets, the ideal turn for charging is usually 4 (or even 5) as you have high firepower with 2 trebuchets and some bow/magical support for chaff or mopping up

My best games with Brets usually involve shuffling around a few inches at a time while the Trebs pound the enemy. I try and set things up so they have a 10+ (on the dice) charge to the close unit, so the odds are they'll fail... leaving me a good 7+ charge to hammer them with.
And the two other units a half-inch back will have at worst an 8+, giving them a slightly-better than 50% chance each of completing the charge as well, or putting them in position to counter-charge the enemy if they get lucky.

Grey is right. You choose to pray before dice are rolled. Opponent chooses 1st or 2nd. With current rules and missions in warhammer, their is very rarely a good reason to go 2nd.

Reread that. You're stating exactly what I said, but agreeing with the guy who says that praying is an automatic first turn for the bret opponent.
