Just unboxed and measured the diameter of the GW base of the 2013 Tau XV-88 Broadside kit and turns out it is 64mm
Is this a production mistake? Because I had read about 25mm, 40mm and 60mm bases but not 65mm?
The old XV-88s were mounted on 40mm bases, werent they?

New bigger broadside, new bigger base.
Forgeworld used the 60s for their broadsides for years.
Not sure why its 64 instead of 60 though.

I just unboxed the Riptide and realized that on its 95x120mm base it says 2006. Did GW already make bases of this size back then???? 0_o

Possibly the Trygon kit way back in 06.
Games workshop bases are pretty liberal to what they state, I have laser cut movement trays for my Mournfang and they leave about a 10mm gap when ranked up.

The plastic trygon didn't come out until 2010. The resin one from FW didn't come with a base as I recall.
I suspect the oval bases were first used with the Forgeworld flyers.

The 65-ish mm base is the one that everyone refers to as 60mm. Not sure exactly how that came about... When GW first introduced larger bases (on the plastic Guard weapon teams, IIRC) they uses a flat disc that actually was 60mm diameter. When they upgraded to the standard slotta-base style for the big base, everyone just kept calling it a 60mm base, despite the fact that it was slightly larger.
