Hey guys, just played a quick 500 point game on a Zone Mortalis board. We just did a straight up kill team. It was pretty fun and crazy and I feel it really changes the feel of the game without adding anything overly complex. Have you guys played on it? What are your thoughts?

I've played a LOT of Zone Mortalis games (and own a 4x6 board of it). Most of our thoughts are here....

The board is a lil pricey for me but I have played simler games before using space hulk tiles and other means. Adds a lot to a game. Different units shine than in "normal games". Also found that when combined with a "normal game" it can make it interesting as well....
1. part of the field is an underground bunker
2. A whole second table is set up to represent this underground bunker with entrances across the above ground field that match corrospondingly on the below ground field.

You dont have to purchase the FW board to play it. In fact with some wooden blocks and creativity you can make a beautiful looking board which works great.
Best part is you can get the rules to play it free here...

love some ZM!
I’m finishing up the first month of a 3 Month Narrative Campaign, based off an imperial dauntless class cruiser.
We are using pegasus hobbies gothic city kits for the two 4x4 boards. It turned out to be so popular, I’ve had to get some 68”x24” paper maps printed out on a large plotter to make 2 more boards.
Here’s the sewer maps link. Places like party supply stores can print them.

Got to give Carl’s pod casts on campaigns and mission design some credit. =)

I've been looking toward ZM to revitalize 40k in the Manhattan & Brooklyn NY boroughs.
Obviously some here like it. Can you please give me some pointers on how to get a gaming group psyched about their 40k minis again? How best should I introduce ZM to them?
I've already provided the FLGS with the free PDF rules and we have tons of terrain, so the practical aspect of it is a none issue.
Thanks

I'd suggest doing a 5-10 week league with a $5 entry (or $0) and ask if the FLGS will match the total with store credit or donate prizes.

It's pretty expensive.
Back in the day, friends and I worked up a similar setup using foamcore for a total of around $40. I know what you mean about the mechanics, it is a totally different way of playing 40k. Khorne Berzerkers used to rule in those conditions.

I don't think they would "rule" given the Reactionary Fire rule (Overwatch at full BS conditioned on a I test). But either way, the ZM idea has already grabbed the attention of a few "former" 40K players. Here's to hoping!!!

Wraiths rule pretty hard in it... though they cannot phase through the impassable terrain like they could in the previous codex.
Tau and Eldar do very well as some of the mobility and jump shoot jump capability puts them out of range of return fire easily.
ZM is a fantastic way to enjoy a very small number of 40k models.

I love that Carl is the first reply. I'm starting to wonder if he gets a commission fee for every ZM tile sold
In all seriousness it's a great addition to the game and with how expensive things are getting it can create compelling games at a much lower model count than standard 40k. (This assuming you are making your own if cost is a concern)
