I think it is because they are pretty rare to run in to in the wild. The scientist in the article said he has now seen 3 in a 10 or 15 year time span.

There are a lot of species that we know about but have only seen a handful of times and even then, we were not able to study them in the wild very well or for very long.

Haven't we all heard of the Goliath before?

I inherited a tarantula from my uncle after he moved home and I used to catch grasshoppers for it. When it (actually it was a she) was younger it was able to climb right up the side of the glass tank and sit on the mesh under the lid. Certainly made feeding easier. Quite a harmless creature.
