...and it's...wonderful.

Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey is just about to enjoy a digitally restored limited U.K. theatrical release. And to celebrate, here's a lovely new trailer.

The sci-fi classic, released in 1968, is one of the most memorable visual treats you're ever likely to see, spawning an endless array of imitators and influencing innumerable creators. The new trailer, commissioned by the British Film Institute and Warner Bros., is the first of its kind for four decades.

Sucks it is only shown in Britain but I'm get over it somehow.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I've had the pleasure of seeing 2001 in a theater. It was a different experience compared to watching it on TV. You Brits are in for a treat.

I watched 20011: A Space Odyssey on an old TV that had a colouring issue so everything had yellowish hue to it, still looked amazing though and I found the plot of the storytelling elements just as strong. Boy do I miss slow, cerebral sci fi.

I think I've only watched 2001 once before. It was good enough until the last um... Was it 20 minutes? In any case, it felt that long at least...

I believe my comment was, "what a waste of ****ing time that was."

It's a visualization of the main character evolving into a new life form and the effects looked gorgeous what was wrong with that scene?

The book kinda clears up this point by actually saying what is happening than just leaving you to draw conclusions, same with David's travel through the stargate at the end

That being said I'll be looking forward to this

I saw 2001 in the cinema some time in early 80s, it must have been a re-release because I am not old enough to have seen the original run.

It has been on TV several times over the years, of course.

The trailer is interesting because people like me obviously know all the shots and know how they link into the film, and to me it sort of seems like they are giving too much away. For a youngster, though, who has never seen it, the impact must be very different.

Are there any Dakkanauts who have never see this film, and don't know the plot? What do you guys make of the trailer?

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
