I have the impression that chaos bikes with melta guns are becoming a thing now, and many lists run a squad of at least 5 bikes with two meltas. In the lists, though, nobody mentions if meltas are taken instead of CCW or instead of twin-linked boltguns. According to you, what's the better option and why?

Almost universally IME they are swapped for the bolt gun. They look awesome and it keeps the melee capability of the bikers in tact. A single TL bolter just isn't worth a lot.

Alternatively plasma is not bad either.

Swapping for plasma is also a great idea.

Always swap for the twinlinked boltgun.

I've been forced to swap the CCW, simply because of the bike models being pre-assembled when I bought them.

But its not so much an issue for Tank Hunting considering you only get one Krak Grenade attack anyways if you charge a vehicle.

The idea is not to shoot and charge a tank but to shoot and explode a transport then charge the contents.That is why the boltgun is usually the best to be replaced.

So instead of boltguns it is. I will have fun converting. Thanks!

Just remember for the convering that it's only one melta gun, so do what I did for my plasma conversion and remove the boltgun and add one new weapon right in the middle.

For the tactics comment I'll say I don't really like the melta guns on bikes now. I use two differently armed kinds of bikes, plasma for shooting and bare (or if I have a few extra points with flamers) mark of khorne and power maul for vehicle crushing. Any transport you'll need to hit with a melta gun will be a landraider (and you likely don't want to charge the contents) or a devilfish and it'll jink your pen away just to spite you. Rhrinos and raiders and other light transports can be dealt with with a slew of other weapons. The first time you charge a devilfish and get 5 str 7 hits and 16 str 5 hits on rear armour, they'll wish you brought melta guns instead.

I always swap the twin linked bolter.
