Hello all. Have not posted here in some time, but with the arrival of 7th Edition I am getting back into the swing of things.

I've been an Iron Hands fan for some time now, stretching all the way back to WD 261 when their Index Astartes was published. But now with how fun and fluffy their rules are now, I couldn't help myself.

So here are my newest models for my Iron Hands:

Iron Hands Clanlord and Librarian.

Clanlord

Librarian.

Nothing too fancy, just a lot of kitbashing. I have not decided on a clan name as of yet, but it will probably be of my own design.

More to come! Comments and constructive criticisms welcome!

Some more progress: Tactical Marines.

Squad 1

Squad 2

Squad 3

Once again the Space Marine kits show their versatility; 15 marines with a boatload of options. The modified backpacks for the sergeants would most likely represent teleport homers. Otherwise, it's Iron Hands; so why not have techy stuff?
These guys just need their Razorbacks and then they will be complete. I'll probably go through them again and add ammo pouches and such.

Thanks for looking!

Nice conversions. The custom backpacks are cool.

Thanks. Bitz box to the rescue! Had some spare terminator torsos and some radar dishes from the SM vehicle accessory sprue laying around.

But yeah, pretty simple converting at this point. I plan on adding power cables to most of the models as well, but at the moment I'm weighing my options between small gauge guitar wire (which I have heard can be a pain to work with) or Pewter Power Cables from Dragonforge.

Anyone have suggestions as to the size (or note in this case) of guitar wire that is good for your average Marine?

As a guitarist, I'd say you want A or maybe D for quite thick cabling (I'd equate it to thickness of a Plasma Cannon wire) and for the thinner stuff, thin E or B. If you need really thick stuff, look at bass guitar strings, but remember that the thicker the string, the harder it will be to bend/hold in tight shapes. I'd say anything thicker than an A would be a pain. Also, don't get anything labelled 'heavy' strings, they are thicker for the same notes and much too hard to use for this kind of thing.

Hope that covers it. If you need it, I can take a pic of a SM next to a guitar with the strings labelled, but you'd have to wait a few days.

Thanks for the advice Paradigm. I picked up some .42 (E) and .30 (A) bronze guitar strings from my local guitar shop and they work pretty well. Relatively easy to snip and cut into shape.

Experimenting with guitar wire for bionics and such.

I think it works to give the impression of bionics without resculpting an entire leg. I wanted to use the Sternguard legs and torsos for some Veterans, but also change them enough so that they did not look exactly out-of-the-box.

More with those Veterans later!

So I was pleasantly surprised to receive a Venerable Dreadnought for my birthday, so I'm putting off working on those veterans for a moment.

Venerable Dreadnought

Went together pretty quick and added a servo arm from the SM Techmarine. Nothing says Iron Hands like more servo arms.
That nice empty space on the front panel will have a brass Iron Hands icon once it arrives from Forgeworld.

More to come!

Inlaying the wire into the leg really does work well, I may have to nick that as/when I get around to doing some IH. Nice conversion on the Dread too.

On a side note, I recall seeing an awesome Iron Hands army a few years back that used all sorts of parts from watch mechanisms for servo-gear, detailing and bioinics. I don't know how easy it is to get hold of that stuff, but it might be worth looking into.

These look really cool, are you able to give us some close up shots of those custom backpacks? Im pretty tempted to make some for my next tac squad. Also, maybe a bit of info or a how to would be cool as well

Thanks! It is a fairly straightforward conversion, but it involves a fair amount of carving to make it fit right.

Take a Terminator torso front and cut it about here:

Then, carve out the inner part so that it resembles an arch of sorts. I had to trim down some corners on the backpacks as well to make it fit right.

I glued the Terminator part on top of the backpack, and then attached the radar dish onto the back. Pretty simple. The carving is the tedious part.

Still working on those veterans, so I don't have much to show at the moment.

As far as basing, I have a fair amount of sand and random rock debris that I was going to use. I was thinking on painting them a dark grey of sorts to represent the ashen wastes of Medusa (at least how I envision the planet). Any suggestions as far as colors or materials for that kind of look?

Thanks for looking!

The Veterans are coming along. Mostly just legs at this point, but this guy is basically done.

Using guitar wire is fun once you get the hang of it. A pair of needle-nose pliers is your friend!

So I only had three Meltaguns...and I wanted four...so I made one!

Had some bits lying around, namely the meltagun nozzle from a mutated chaos lord combi-weapon. Hacked up a flamer, added some bits and some wire and voila!

More to come!

And the Veterans are built! I plan on using them for a Command Squad for my Clanlord.
