Hey Dakka Dakka!

I am currently looking to buy some model from forge world but i am not able to made i good decision! I need your help!

I very like the Ork Squiggoth, it look like a super cool model to paint and have in a army. With is T7 and a few whound, it look perfect to put some tankbusta or some flash gitz inside and make some trouble. A little expensive in term of points thought...

One of my other option will be the Mega Dread. I have 2 deff dread, 9 killa kans and i think it could be nice to have. I never field my walker army because i think its not that good and i fill like i am missing something... may be a Mega Dread or a Gorka/Morkanaut (i dont like the model that much) and for the same price i can have a stompa... witch is one of the coolest model, but again, so much expensive for low point game...

My other option is ether the Grot Mega Tank or the grot tank.

Please, give me some comment, its been 4 days i am changing what i have in my forge world cart...

Thank you and may the WAAAGH!!! be with you!

Carl

The Mega Dreak (and Meka Dread) are both absolutely fantastic models which are really fun to put together. However, once you factor in buying arms for either of them, they are fairly pricey, and they suffer all the standard dreadnought vulnerabilities. If you like modeling, they are a great option, as there are a load of options, a lot of posability, and ways to customize them.

The Squiggoth is almost at the opposite end of that spectrum. Other than swapping out the gun, there's not much you can do with the model for options (of course, you can always add stuff). Being a Monstrous Creature, it's fairly good in game, but you have no posability with it at all.

The Grot Mega Tank and Grot Tanks have tons of customization (if you get both). The Grot Tank guns and turrets will fit on the mega tank, and vice versa. If you do magetization, you can get one set and buy the other later, and swap between them then. The Mega Tank is (marginally) more survivable, but the Grot Tanks (to me) are better, because you can have a few exploded and still have the unit doing something, where the Mega Tank goes down all at once, functionally.

While I like all of these models, I would rank the Grot Tanks as the best to get, based on customization options and usability. They aren't going to destroy the enemy army, but they also aren't going to get one-shotted off the board like a dread.

Thanks for the fast reply! I was talking more about painting then customizing the models. This i why i liked a lot the Big Squiggoth. I seems good and different to paint then my boyz. I like the grot tank a lot as well... Thanks for your input, 1 point for the grot tank!

My friends and I agree that the Grot Tanks are one of the coolest models in the entire game. As a bonus they are actually pretty good for the point cost. Just don't go too nuts with the options (like everything else in the Ork codex) and you have a very versatile army that can be used against a variety of types of units.

Grot tanks are awesome, I have nine of them!

I'd suggest the KillKrusha just for its utter over-the-top Orkiness though.

I absolutely adore my grot tanks. But then again, I like grots in a way that is....somewhat unusual in 40 k. I have a 1250 point ork army that contains 12 orks, with the rest being Killa Kans, Big Guns, Grot Tanks and Grot mobs.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Mega-dread. If you want it mainly for painting, there are a ton of little details. Little baby tanks are boring. Besides, you've already got 11 walkers; might as well go balls to the wall with the theme, right?

Can you use it without updated rules? (Hopefully you can just don't know). Also if you want to keep track like the you can start a poll it works great.

Most up to date rules for them are in Imperial Armor Volume 8 page 135. If somebody knows of anything more current than that please let us know. I have been using those rules and nobody seems to mind so far. Those rules are also built into battlescribe.

Battlescribe, generally, stays pretty well up to date. Stuff is added rather fast after it comes out. Heck, Battlescribe is the reason I am using the most current rules for the Contemptor Mortis Dreadnought. The Forgeworld website says to use Imperial Armour Apocalypse, but in actuality, Imperial Armour 2: Second Edition is the most current. The guys who work on that data do a top notch job.

Because nobody else will say it: the Squiggoth is great! The model would be unique, giving you something different to paint than just Ork flesh and scrap metal. And it might fit well into your army.

Grot Tanks are fun, no doubt, but personally I'd first get the Squiggoth. And seeing how you tend towards the Squiggoth too, why not just go with it?

I have not. AV13 with a 5+ save ain't too shabby, but something tells me it should be 4HPs at 175 points. So, I guess it suffers from the same problems as all walkers: cool in concept, disappointing in practice. Still, I don't collect a model based upon its stats, rather how cool it looks in my army. The mega-dread oozes cool.

I just both a few thing! The Squiggot, 1 Fw nob on bike, 3 bikers, a unit of Flash Gitz and a unit of mega nobz!

I will try two different thing. I will put a unit of shoota boyz on the squiggots or a unit of flash gitz to cover the troop on foot. I will field a unit of warbike to go fast as possible hit the unit that can arm the squiggots so it will last longer! A unit of meganobz in a trukk to go fast and to back up the bikers!

What you think about it?

Just a question, can i shoot with a BS3 with the Flash Gits on the squiggots or they will count as moving?

Grot tanks make very cool models.

“Games Workshop has had a really good year.
If your measure of 'good' is the current financial year's numbers, you may not agree. But if your measure is
the long-term survivability of a great cash generating business that still has a lot of potential growth, then you
will agree.”
