If you liked the Lord of the Rings running time you'll love Christopher Nolan's new sci-fi film which clocks in at a brisk 168 minutes and 49 seconds (the IMAX version is 1 minute 18 seconds shorter). If you were wanting to see Interstellar when it opens just be prepared and go before you go.

Thank you for the tip. I might skip the soda.
I generally like longer movies, as long as I know beforehand.

Sounds good to me.
First of all, the movie looks awesome and second, if I am going to pay what I have to pay for a movie around here, I might as well get my money's worth.

There are times where a long run time is a detriment to the movie as a whole (as in, there's a ton of needless fluff, or filler)
I hope this movie doesn't have this, and is this long due to what "needs" to be discussed over the course of the film.

I remember a few good movies that had close to 3 hour running times without me realizing it. I also remember them being good enough that they managed to suck me in and I was shocked to learn that I was in the theater that long.

The Fellowship of the Ring was like that... I only realised how far through it was when Frodo climbed into the boat, at which point I realised that the end was nigh and I was going to have to wait a whole year for the next bit...

Marvel's so pervasive, they've started putting teasers at the end of other people's movies!

Feth me... it's that long!? I've sat down and watched the whole thing in one go, and didn't realize it was that long. On the flip side, 2001 took forever for me to get through, simply due to the style it was shot in, and the way the story is told.

I had to watch that in two sittings. Bored out of my mind, I was.
Apocalypse Now Redux is pretty lengthy, but for me it went like "schwing!". One of my all time favourites.

Manos is bad, bad, bad... But I wouldn't say that was the worst movie they've watched (I think Future War is on top of that list) and I think the riffing makes Manos bearable.
Some of the dense, talky movies I struggle to get through. Hamlet comes to mind... I don't think I've ever made it through that episode.

I fell asleep so many times during the 2nd movie over multiple attempts at watching it I just gave up and threw the tapes in the garbage (where they belong). Terrible movie. I liked the first one, though.

I think the second one is better than the first one. I can't watch it on DVD though, because my edition's got two discs.
Part III has the best story of the three, but the lousy acting (not least from Sofia Coppola) ruins it for me.

Not really.
In fact, I'd bet that the majority of films don't do it.

I don't think so, but then considering the vast amount of movies that exist it isn't surprising that I haven't seen them all; I doubt anyone has. I'm not saying Manos is the worst movie ever made, but if you can steel yourself against it you should be able to handle pretty much any bad movie. I also rarely, if ever, seek out bad film unless it is MST3k or Rifftrax. Rifftrax is the only way to watch Twilight, and even then would rather watch Manos again.

Yeah, if given the choice between Manos and Twilight (any of them), I would choose the former 10 times out of 10.
Full disclosure, I've never seen any of the Twilight movies. The closest I came was right after the first iPad came out: I was on a flight and the passenger (late 30s, male) in the seat next to mine pulls out his brand new iPad. Intrigued, I look up from my book to notice that the movie he had decided to watch was Twilight. The weird thing was, he was super in to... I mean, based on the look on his face he was enthralled the entire movie.
