Hi all,

Has someone of you tested how long you have to wait until revell plastic glue is dry enough to use GW primer? I'm assembling an imperial knight and seems like I have to prime and paint several parts before gluing them into place.

Unless you are overdoing the glue to the point where it really isn't setting at all, 10-15 minutes should be plenty if you're in a hurry. At the very latest it should be dry half an hour later.

Dry in terms of stability definitely, but also in terms of no dissolver coming out below the primer?

As far as I've ever been able to tell, almost certainly.

I honestly have no idea how little time you could wait and it to be fine.

I personally do the smell test. If I can still smell the glue, that means it's still releasing gases. But that said I'm not sure how important it is with glue... in all these years I've never tried testing it. It's important when you're trying to paint something like an enamel over an acrylic or if you're waiting for a varnish to cure before using white spirit on it.

I usually just assemble one day and build the next... for some reason it's never even come up that I would build something and paint it immediately, even for the sake of bond strength.

Somewhere in south-central England.

It depends partly on how thick a layer of cement you put on the parts. As a general range it could be dried in one to 15 minutes. It would be pretty surprising if it took any longer.

Unless you are in a tearing hurry I should follow AllSeeingSkink's advice to assemble in the evening and prime the next day.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Yeah, that's what I usually do, but with the IK it would take days to assemble. And so I'll just test it out now I guess. Will post results here.

It really depends on how much you've used.

~10-15 minutes: It should have set enough to hold pieces together, but still pliable enough for some readjustments.
~30 minutes: Should be almost completely set. You might have wriggle room for last minute minor readjustments.
~1 hour: Fully set. Solid as a rock. It ain't coming apart of it's own accord.

I'd guess drying times might well vary depending on what kind of climate you're in, what the weather's like at the time, etc.

Empirical experiments just confirmed the above times. After 1h the primer worked just as usual. Warm air speeds the process by 10 to 15 min
